Have you tried to start windows normally if so what happened because sometimes if the computer shuts down incorrectly when you restart it does ask you those questions so will you try to hit the start windows normally and if it dosent work let us know what happens next

Also try to start in safe mode and then do a system restore back to when it was working fine

we dont normally revert back to factory settings unless we have no other choice because you loose everything thats on your c drive and then you have a lot of work and updates to get it back to how you like it

So only do this if you really have to or you want to totaly clean and tidy it up

To do this i believe :-
Turn on the power swich and keep hitting the r key a few times that will hopefully take you into the restore area then follow the instructions
Hope this has helped you good luck

If you set the bios to boot from USB. Place your USB Bootable stick into the USB socket and boot from it.
Windows will find the hdd and format it before putting Windows on it.
What has happened is the hdd name is missing from the system and it requires initializing before you can see it.

Hi you should keep on tapping F8 while booting so that an option will appear to select safe mode. or if you have a recovery CD restart the computer then press F2 or Delete to access the Bios Page look for Boot Options and change the first boot priority to your CDROM restart the computer and just follow the instruction on the recovery disk.

Thanks for using Fixya.

My asus Eee 1005 wont boot up unless i go to safe mode with networking, how do i fix this so I can boot up normally without using safe mode?

If it is booting up in safe mode and not booting up normally then it could be a driver fault or some sort of spyware virus.
Try using system restore in safe mode to restore the laptop to a time when it was working fine.
goto start bar, click on run and type msconfig, in here you can choose anystart up programs or services you dont need or use and stop them from starting, make sure you are positive you are stoping programs that you know are on your mechine.
Dont restart yet goto my computer c:drive, goto the windows folder and find a folder called prefetch open this folder and delete all of it contents, once done close out of all windows and restart the pc in normal mode hopfully the problem will be solved.
hope this helps and please post back what happens.

Hard drive has bad sectors on it which is why its giving you that message even though you can go thru the restore. Normally going thru the system cd and then the recovery cd should bring you into windows with the device drivers installed.

Why is my acer starting up repeatedly? It goes to the screen where i highlight the windows to start normally but it keeps shutting down and returning back to the same screen.

Try something else but start normally.
Start in safe mode (Press F8 right after boot) then reboot.
Start in the last good configuration.

If none works reinstall the system.
Change Boot sequence in BIOS to CD-HDD.
Insert Installation CD in CD-Rom drive
Choose install.
Choose C; partition
Choose Format (do not do a quick format). Any formatting will erase all on the Hard Drive.
Complete installation and reboot.

There is something else you could do before resorting to a reinstallation, and that is to use The Recover Console. You acces it when setup asks wether you want to reinstall, or repair. If you answer Repair you boot into the recovery console.

But before using it you should query Microsoft knowledge base about Recovery Console, and know exactly what should do.

Hope it helps.

Freezing in 'safe mode'

Have you tried accessing the bios to set boot order? It may be trying to load from the hdd before the optical/usb drive.

During the flash screen, press F2 (though it can vary by maker) and change your boot order to load the USB drive first.

Hope this helps!

Windows wont start up says needs system 32 hal.dll.

You should be able to do a repair as long as you have the windows installation disk.

You also might be able to take the computer back in time if it will boot to safe mode (or last good boot). Start tapping on F8 after you turn it on to get to the boot preference screen, then select Safe Mode.

Windows xp wont advance beyond the xp screen. It wont advance to the log in screen. I have tryed to boot in safe mode and adjust it to boot up with my recovery disc but the same thing happens.

try F8 again into safe mode, but this time select, last known good configuraion and reboot. If still no change, i suspect there is a problem with the boot.ini file, so only a repair of the system files using the XP cd can repair this, you will need to set your cdrom drive as first boot device in the cmos settings (f2 or Del on boot up)
