Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a Thermador Range oven and one of the front doors will not close all the way. The model number off the sticker on the unit is PRD484EEHU/01 serial 39711008587. When the unit is on convection you can clearly feel the air coming out of the oven, and food cooks unevenly. It doesn't feel like the springs in the hinges are broke, but I'm thinking they must need replaced. Does anyone know how to tighten them up, or how they are replaced? Or, where do I purchase them online? I've pulled the front cover off myself, hoping I can fix this myself so I won't have to pay someone a fortune! Please let me know. Thank you in advance!

Is there a way to just tighten the spring instead of replacing the entire hinge?

Found the part, very quick help, thank you!

No the tightness is only due to the strength of the spring which doe to heat and long time use they shlitly loosen up and this can not be fixed, need to replace the hinges.

Mbbs 01 thermador micro oven: timer counts down, lights go on, but no heat, no fan and turntable does not turn. is it a fuse?

Key clue is table does not move---All microwaves with a table have a lever switch that is engaged when door closes--only can get at from inside the unit----it prevents the unit from operation if door not closed.

What happens from closing door a lot is the switch with a lever arm can come loose or even if snapped into a plastic holder break out of the holder.

IF this it is not too expensive a repair.

GE model number jvm1790sk 01 over range microwave convection oven turns on when door is closed but i think it is the convection oven that is on cause the turn table does not turn and the light does not...

That's probably a shorted relay on the control circuit board.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I need to replace the waveguide in my Thermador MBBS / 01 microwave.

Waveguide "cover"I presume? The waveguide is part of the chassis and cannot be replaced.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Same issue with my Thermador Microwave!

You may want to look into the possibility of a "panasonic" (specifically a "genius" model) microwave unit that should fit there nicely. most of those Thermador 3 component units had the m/w built by panasonic. (though you'll not get them to tell you that)

I'd like to add, I find it unlikely your's is "burned beyond repair". what is the problem, if you'd care to elaborate.
Perhaps your m/w can be saved, or revived.

Inside front of oven door is a water build-up

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

Door Latch mechanism is broken

Normally on over the range models, you would unplug the oven from the wall, remove the 2 or 3 screws holding the top grille in place, remove the screw at the top of the control panel frame, then CAREFULLY lift up and out to remove it.
If it is a counter top model, you need to remove the outer cover before remoing the control panel frame.

If you can give us the full model number from the sticker, we might be able to give you more specific help.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
