Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a White Westinghouse W-DT2240 dryer, it is about 20 years old. It has developed a problem that after about 20-40 minutes of drying it stops and it begins making rapid electrical clicking noises, seemingly from near the switches on the front of the dryer. If I wait 20 minutes or more, I can restart the dryer and it continues working. It may again stop and continue clicking, in which case I need wait again. This seems to be some kind of thermal problem. I have checked the lint trap and the outlet vent, and both are clear. This is the second dryer of this exact same model that I have used. I replaced the first dryer a while ago because of exactly the same problem. Could you let me know what is wrong and how to fix it? I notice that the front panel is deeply buried in the machine when viewed from the back, so may be difficult to get to. Also, the particular dryer model seems rather obscure, so parts are likely difficult to get. What level of fix is likely needed here and is it worth it for a 20 year old machine? Thanks

Thanks for checking for parts. I also tried to find parts, but could not trace the model number. I have the impression that this is a regional model for Canada. Perhaps after 20 years, it is time for a new dryer.

Hello
I have tired to look this dryer up for parts and nothing shows at any of the many sites I use, it seems there are no parts available, faced with his problem my only advice is no matter what is wrong with it you will not be able to obtain the parts to fix it. I have also tried to find service information about the dryer it comes up as model number invalid, you are kind of stuck here. .

Check for clogged vent. Vents will clog midway and if vented to the outside of a house, there is a plastic cover that usually gets covered with lint that gets wet and dries to a hard mask.

My Westinghouse LD505e suddenly stopped working during a drying cycle and it won't start. Would anyone be kind enough to guess what could be the problem and advise a solution. It's 4years old

Probably a blown fuse due to a heater element problem or maybe a bearing problem. I recently worked on one and did a movie which shows the fuse location and all:

I suggest checking the moister sensor and or cycling thermostat. the hi limit thermostat as well, with a meter for continuity. other wise you may have a bad timer

Maytag Bravos Dryer (1 mo. old) timer does not change from start

Maytag Bravos 400 Series Dryer purchased August 2009 - November 2009 required repair as I also experience the timer readjusting itself to excessive extended drying time when clothing was bone dry and hot. Sometimes extended to 1 hour 40 minutes! Serviceman stated problem was the Sensors in the dryer. Part number 8577274 Thermister and "Old Ohmed out open" whatever that means as listed on my repair ticket. Have not had that particular problem since. Make sure your dryer vents from dryer to outside are clean and clear of lint. Will help immensely. I have many other issues with this dryer it has been down FOUR times in 9 months. Fighting with Maytag to replace this lemon!

Dd you try to unscrew the larger lint trap underneath the lint cup collector. My serivce person showed me how to do this and after a year I cleaned it out and was surprised how much lint was caught in there. My dryer was not heating and drying quickly, this helped the problem.
