It sounds as if the device driver (a small bit of system software) is damaged.
Go to the Control Panel, open the Printer & Faxes folder, find the checked printer with your model number and delete it.
Leave the printer turned on and connected, restart your system and force Windows to recognize it again.
If it still doesn't respond right, try going through the restore routine to roll back the computer to an earlier date when the printer was still operating correctly.
If it still isn't right, use the supplied CD to reinstall all of the software that came with it.
