If you pulled hard on the jammed piece of paper to remove it from the printer, you have most likely broken the small plastic paper advancing gear on the left-hand side of the printer - we have seen this mistake too many times. Because the plastic gear is stripped/broken, the printer cannot advance paper from the paper tray so the printer errors "Carriage Jam". The bad news is that the printer is broken and it is time to purchase a new one. What you and everyone need to learn from this is to NEVER pull hard to remove paper out of your printer. First, put away your anger and then open all access doors to carefully remove the jammed paper.Otherwise, keep buying new printers.

We would suggest that you upgrade from the HP 8500.

The HP 8600 series printer is a better printer than the HP 8500. If you print more than 500 pages per month also purchase an AdaptiveInk continuous ink supply system (CISS) HP 8600 CISS to get your printing costs down to less than 1 cent/page.

Purchase an HP Pro X series printer if you need high-speed inkjet printing of 70 pages/minute, and print more than 2,000 pages per month. We then recommend purchasing an AdaptiveInk HP Pro X CISS to get your printing costs down to less than 2 cents/page.

Hi
This is a coomon problem with the printer the best thing to do is call HP and advise them of the issue. I recently had a customer who did this and even know it was out of warranty they replaced the printer.

Thanks

I keep getting a false paper jam and I have followed the steps in clearing a paper jam. there is no paper jam, however when I put the duplex cartriage back into the printer and press ok to clear it now...

If you have cleared off the paper jammed within then it is possible that errors have crept into the drivers. sometimes the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.

My HP officejet pro all in one 8500 wireless keeps flashing "clear paper jam then push ok"..... I have pushed ok, it will run its course and then flash the same message. I have tried turning it...

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Paper Jam HP OfficeJet 8500

etechrepair.jpg Constant jam indication. This gear is more than likely the cause after exhausting all other avenues. Also nearly impossible to get to let alone replace even if HP offered the part. There is a black cover over the clutch assy that can be removed to reveal the gear. In most cases the gear is either sitting in the bottom of the machine or split down one side. This is the second machine that I have diagnosed with this problem in a very short time. If you have this broken gear, consider it toast. Matt / E-tech Copier and printer repair.

My HP 8500 printer worked perfect for 6 months, but now grabs about 10 pages of paper every time it prints and is always jamming up.

Hi there
You should allways gave the paper a good shake before putting in the printer and the paper should keep in a worm place or it will do just that pull in lots at the same time.

HP officejet pro 8500 wireless when i scan, the message says: there is no computer connection - what to do. It does print without problem

The thing says I have a paper jam and I do not. I accounted for every scrap. Even did as one poster suggested and gently turned it upside down and shook it -- very gently. This is really aggravating.
