Question about 2wire (2701HG-B) Wireless Router

1 Answer

I used the wrong power wire(unknowingly) for it and when i plugged it into the box it smoked until i unplugged it. Does this mean it is fried or is it fixable, like a new fuse or something?

Generally speaking, fuses don't emit smoke <grin>

It's 99% certain that it's "fried" - repair cost would likely be --prohibitive.

If you got yours from your ISP, they may have a NQA (no questions asked) exchange program.

Otherwise... get another one. Craigslist is usually a good place to find 'em for less than retail.

PS: You might want to "tag" the power-cord so that you don't "fry" it again...

Vizio tv says no signal on any of the hdmi ports

Unfortunately, you fried the HDMI controller. Not necessarily part of the power supply "main board." (Not sure which board is the HDMI controller in your specific TV. It's usually a separate board by itself). Easiest workaround is to use the "Component" cable connectors. The downside is you only get 720P. However, most cable/satellite and _all_ antenna signals are only 720P anyway. Most people only see 1080P when viewing Blu-Ray discs. Aside from replacing the HDMI controller, the cheapest workaround for multiple source connections is to buy an HDMI to Component Converter A/V box, which allows you to connect multiple devices to one box with one set of Component cables connecting to the TV. Then select various "sources" via the box.

Can a dryer heating element smoke if dryer is not running?

Something fried and is shorted. Unplug this unit right away. There are a few sensors on this that could have overheated as they failed causing this smoke and smell, but UNPLUG UNIT!!! Then look at what has fried.

The plugs on this model projector is very delicate, over time the solder around the plug will begin to crack. Until eventually the connection is lost. Another possibility is that the power supply has gone bad. Using another cord would not cause this. I can fix the projector if you'd like. My ebay screenname is gtitubro.

Tried a power supply that was wrond voltage and

I don't want to sound mean or condescending but if you're good enough to repair what is wrong with that monitor you wouldn't be asking someone in here how to fix it. You just don't go pick up a soldering iron and start fusing parts in a monitor if you even find the parts at the local Radio Shack. If you smelled smoke and it doesn't come back on it's fried.

If you connected the battery wrong, chances are you fried your main fuse box.  Check the main i believe 30 amp maxifuse and replace it.  Your main fusebox should be under the hood in the engine compartment.

Power Surge at Home

This time it came in on the cable, the clue was the cable box also blew. So if you had a cable surge supression device...for HDTV, I think you would have survived the second surge.

I do have the technology. It is a F-connector type and will handle HDTV signal.

No power to Compaq Presario

There were several recalls on Compaq's ac adapters and batteries that caused fire to units...

Check this out

I would also check with compaq about your problem. They were replacing and repairing the units free of charge due to the defects. I would check with them

Hope this helps you
