If the washer is running, but the agitator is slipping, then you may have worn agitator dogs, or a loose agitator bolt. The following link explains what the dogs are, and how to access to acces the bolt and replace them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers from the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. Most of these parts are commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory.

Read through the information provided. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

SOURCE: Washing machine agitator base of unit agitates but

You Doggets are worn out. There is four tear drop peices in yoiur agitator the only cost a few dollars and you can put them in yourself. Take the top off your agitator you may have to use a small screwdriver there is a slot on one side 1/2'' from the top looj down in there. you have to remove a cap in there it has a handle on it. Once you remove that you can see the doggests you will need a 7/16 in socket wrench to remove the center bolt. Pull the intire agitator. There is two clips in the in the centeryou hav to remove. putting it backyou will have to hold it upside down to keep the parts together.

Loose agitator on Whirlpool washer. The base is secure, it's just the upper part of the agitator is wobbly

These agitators have a set of 4 dogs. Overtime these dogs simply disintegrate.

I chewed up the agitator with my boots I washed and I would like to remove the agitator and sand the flaps. How do I remove the agitator? Thank you

The way to remove an agitator is to simply pop the cap off of the top, pull the sealing plug off from just under the cap (if it has one), and using a ratchet and extension, remove the single bolt that holds the agitator to the agitator shaft. If your agitator is "dual action", meaning that the upper portion "ratchets" independent of the lower section, make sure you grasp the agitator under the base and pull straight up. Installation is the reverse of these steps.

Good luck.

The agitar isn;t working right. Is there

The part you need is FSP# 80040 dog kit goes inside the upper agitator. installing them dawgs: You sit the agitator on the floor, put you feet on the base and snatch the top portion off of the bottom. You put all the dogs back in the cam set them up into the upper portion with a piece of pvc pipe or equivilent and invert onto the base, lining up the tabs on the bottom with the holes in the upper portion being careful not to smash the tabs on the base that hold the upper portion onto the agitator. Snap it all into place and gently re-install it being careful not to over tighten the nut. Watch this video:

My KitchenAid washer will agitate, but the upper agitator assembly is not turning and I hear what sounds like marbles moving/slipping. Can I take that top piece off to look at it?

Based on your description, the problem is likely the self-rising tube that comes from the base (bottom) water feed tube. It may not be rising to engage the top assembly....

If it fails to rise all the way, the water will just spray into and on it and cause it to wobble versus rotate.

Pull up on the bottom feed tube - just to confirm that it will move freely...... (food, soap scum and age can prevent it from moving freely.) Clean and retry the washer.....

Kenmore washer 100.92380200 upper agitator not turning

Just fixed mine. You will need an agitator repair kit. It comes with cover seal, bolt seal ratchet pieces and thrust plate for the bottom of upper agitator. Remove fabric cup and cover underneath. Remove bolt and upper agitator. Simple fix. New parts have instructions to repair. Get the correct model number and buy it from an appliance parts place. Around $20.00 retail.

Machine won't spin or agitate

Jumptrout51 answered befro I posted and I believe him to be correct, it makes the most sence to me. A drive coupling has to attach the motor to the transmission and pump to make agitate and spin. You are most likely hearing just the motor but its not attached to anything like it should be. On older machines this is the equalivant of a broken belt.

Agitator spins in one direction

The purpose of the upper portion of the agitator is to push the clothes in a downward motion. As the agitator moves the dogs grab and on the backward srtroke the top portion rotates a quarter turn. In the spin mose the agitator only goes in one direction or your clothes would be torn to shreads. As the washer rotates back and forth, the dogs grab the inner walls of the upper agitator and that forces the clothes into a downward movement to the bottom of the tub. These dogs will wear out. To test whether or not these are bad just grab the agitator while in wash mode. The dogs should advance the top portion easily. If not then they are worn out. To replace them you must remove the agitator and sit it on the floor. Hold the base down with your feet and yank the top upwards. After seperating the 2 pieces you simply install the new dogs and line up the bottom with the top being careful not to break the little tabs on the bottom agitator that hold the top in place.

most likely the agitator dogs are bad. if the agitator engages clockwise and free spins counter clockwise they are good, if it slips they are bad. remove the bolt in the center of the agitator, take off cap or dispenser and remove the inner cap first. pull out the agitator, put on the floor, stand on the base of the agitator and pull up on the upper part to separate, take out the dog holder and replace dogs. Most appliance repair shops should have part on hand for about 5-6 dollars. part number 80040-fsp.

Agitator (can't get to the dogs)

Not sure if you mean the agitator is stuck to the shaft or the agitator will not separate now that you have it out of the machine, if the agitator is stuck, you may be able to get it loose by rocking it back and forth while pulling up on the base or bottom of the agitator. If you have the agitator out already, then stand on the base and pull up sharply on the top section and it will separate.
