Yes...I insert the CD onto the shelf and from the remote push close -- it closes then opens immediately

  • Theresia Hypes Nov 16, 2010

Yes it stays closed....it doesn't engage the CD

  • Theresia Hypes Nov 16, 2010

I'll give that a try this week. although I don't know what shorting the switch means :-(

  • Theresia Hypes Nov 18, 2010

Will try your solution asap....what does shorting the switch mean exactly? You're working with a novice :-)

This happens in only 2 cases:
1 - the end switch of the tray (the switch that cuts the power to the motor when the tray is fully closed) is faulty. To check i you need to dismantle the cd unit and short the switch then reassemble it, put a disk in then manually push the tray in closed position and start the unit. If it works just fine and ejects normally then the switch is defective and must be replaced. If it ejects immediately hen
2 - the controller chip is faulty. The only way to fix that is to replace the entire mainboard and that would cost you as much as a new player.
In that case the player is dead, time for new one.

shorting - connecting the 2 contact points with a piece of wire.

  • Azrael SRL Nov 18, 2010

Take the system apart and on the board of the optical unit you will see 2 small contacts - nothing more than 2 small brass blades with a plastic part on one of them; when fully closed the tray hits the plastic part and breaks the contact signalling that it's closed. These small blades are soldered on the board, just join the solder points with a flat screwdriver (also called shorting the contacts) - this should keep the motor running long enough to make the controller ready to start playing and move the laser head. If this doesn't happen and instead the tray is ejected then the controller is faulty.

Something is obstructing the tray from closing all the way. Instead of the electric motor burning up the door is opening. Does it do this when the tray is empty?

It sounds that the optical pickup unit to your player is faulty. Open the top cover of the player, power it ON and insert a CD in to. Check whether the inserted CD loads well into the mechanism and spins. If do not spins, sled motor is faulty. If it spins, optical pickup unit should be replaced.

Cd case will not open

If you're really brave, unplug the unit and remove the case screws. Pop off the case and get your CD back. The you might need a draw belt. See prbline.com or studiosoundelectronics.com

Not reading any cd format

Hi i have just been able to sort this problem, if your system says "NO CD" after it is inserted then the CD is not sitting right inside, solution for this is, join the philips club (free) and update the firmware and update the Gracenote software

1, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then take another cd insert it in slowly to push the other one down a bit until it stops (may only move a couple of millimetres, you are only using the cd as it fits the slot so don’t try and insert it!!) plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

OR

2, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then you can open the product and physically push the cd down (be careful when you take the lid off as the cd will not be fully slotted down and there are a couple of cables that can pop out but they are easy to put back and obvious) Put the lid back on and plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

any probs just mail back and ill help as much as i can

CD player cover/door won't stay closed

The intermittent version of this seems to be related to the cable that goes to the subwoofer portion. Have seen this behavior when the cable got loose. Unfortunately, I believe that this behavior may get worse in the long run and cause CDs to not play at all.

I had the same problem last night, I tried everything like you did, maybe I just got lucky. I was about to open the case of the unit, the system boot stopped and it went to sleep mode, then I turned it on and luckily the CD can be ejected. Just try playing around with it, you might get lucky. Good Luck...... NOTE: Never play that CD again in your SongCube
