The whole machine has to come apart. If you aren't familiar with doing this, you just might make things worse for yourself. If you do try it yourself, go slow. Be careful who you get your answers from. I have heard some suggestions online that make me cringe for the person asking. If you take it to your local Aerus franchise you might want to ask them to put the yellow tape a little further up the cord to let you know sooner that you are nearing the end.
Thanks for such useful information. Its useful and appropriate.
Try this. Set vacuum on it's back end. Gently pull out cord and release. It may take a few tries, but should work
Repair/service manuals are only available to authorized service tech at authorized Aerus Electrolux stores. These are in the form of software available only from AE to authorized stores. The explanation process would be quite lengthy, and would itself be worth more than $75.
Taking the vacuum and cordwinder apart is somewhat tricky and can result in damage to it. Reassembling correctly can also be tricky.

If you can't get it to work after trying for a bit, taking it into the Aerus Electrolux franchise nearest you is your best bet. If there is nothing broken you will only be charged a labour fee. Good luck to you.
