Question about Dell Inspiron 1545 i15-143P Jet Black PC Notebook

1 Answer

Three of my desktop icons work: Microsoft Essentials, Bookworm (a game) and Email Stripper. Anything else I attempt to create a shortcut with does not work. When I click on the shortcut link, an icon appears on desktop. When I click on the desktop icon, a window appears, saying "Application Not Found."

Tip

Recreate the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch toolbar

To re-create the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch
toolbar, follow these steps....

1. Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to create a
file with the following lines:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
2. Save the new file as a file named Show Desktop.scf
in the WindowsSystem or WinntSystem32 folder. Note
that Notepad may automatically append a .txt extension
to the file name. Remove this extension if Notepad
adds it. These steps do not work if the file is named
Show Desktop.scf.txt.
3. Quit Notepad.
4. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, right-click
the Show Desktop .scf file, and then click Create
Shortcut.
5. Copy the new shortcut to the appropriate folder. In
Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98, copy the shortcut
to this folder: WindowsApplication DataMicrosoftInternet
ExplorerQuick Launch

In Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000,
copy the shortcut to this folder: WinNTSystem32
In Microsoft Windows XP, copy the shortcut to the
following folder: WINDOWSSystem32ConfigSystemprofileApplication
DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch

6. Rename the shortcut to Desktop.
The Show Desktop icon automatically appears on the
Quick Launch toolbar.

Open a web page Right click in the top of screen select the menu tab.
This will add to your screen toolbar File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Open your hotmail right click select Add to Favorites.
Then you can access your Hotmail through Favorites drop down list.
Or
If you have multiple Hotmail accounts, you can create a shortcut icon for each of the accounts on the desktop.
This allows you to quickly launch the specific login page for each email account without having to reenter or remember each email address.

1
Log in to your Hotmail account. Place the cursor in the address bar and highlight the URL.
Right-click and select "Copy."
2
Right-click on an empty space of the desktop and select "New" and then "Shortcut."
The "Create Shortcut" wizard launches.
3
Right-click inside "Type the location of the item" field and select "Paste."
The URL of your Hotmail account is pasted as the location of the shortcut.
Click "Next."
4
Type a name for the icon in the "Type a name for this shortcut" field and click "Finish."
The Hotmail shortcut icon appears on the desktop.
Double-click the Hotmail icon to log in and access your Hotmail account.
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for each Hotmail account you want to create an icon for on the desktop.

How do I get IE 8 icon on my desktop

Go to the installation directory. It is probably C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer.
Look for a file there called iexplore.exe.
Right click on that file. Then use the "Create ShortCut" menu pick! That creates the shortcut. Last step: just drag the shortcut to your desktop. Done!

Problem with FSX Demo setup

You need to find the directory where it has installed, usually in C:\program files\Microsoft games\FSX and then locate the .exe file. Right-click the mouse over this icon, holding the right button down, drag the icaon onto the desktop, release the mouse button and when teh small menu appears choose "create shortcut here" option.

Then you can start the program using the new icon on your desktop. As for playing it, you need to read the manual as it would take too long here to explain it. Good luck

Im having some issues with keyboard too, some buttons work, other dont. But also it will recognize the hard drive sometimes but most the time it doesn't show a Hard Drive? Help me fix this or at l I got the laptop with some issues, but thats ok i couldn't beat it for only $75 and basically brand new. Now the issues i have with this are similar with the Dell N3050 I have where the Keyboard has only a few buttons that work and the rest sometimes do and most the time dont. But more Importantly I cannot get the BIOS, BOOT or seldom programs to recognize the HDD. Now i've used programs (.iso) i've made like "HDD REGENERATOR" / "PARTITION COMMANDER" / "SPOTMAU" and ACRONIS, as well as tons of others! Now most are about Recovery File types with small HDD fixes. But the point is that most will recognize that it's there, including the name "Toshiba 500Gb" but no partitions and other OS related files for it to boot too. I did a minor test to see if a recovery could be done. I have a Seagate External HDD (1TB) has a 3.0 USB Adapter, but i've analyzed this adapter and it designed to fit the new SATA Hard Drive Types and ATA Externals. The 3.0 USB Utility connects to the Drive where a normal SATA Power Connection would be placed and then the Serial Data unit that connects to Sata Cables. But its and "All-In-One" Unit where it slips onto both Power & Data and simply plugs into a USB! Problem is that it wants to see what's connected and really only recognizes my Seagate it came with. But when running HDD Utility tests it comes up as Seagate Utility 3.0 as the name of my "Toshiba Hard Drive" i took out my Dell 1545 to see if troubleshooting that way would be easier. It did find data and files. But not the name or OS. Is there any way I can do a "Home Made" or "DIY aka: Do It Yourself" connector like a Hdd-to-Usb for Externals I could make from home, as well as Pc-to-Pc connector for troubleshooting and finally a PC-to-Laptop Connect Utility as well for the same general purposes. Someone please help me out one this. Im out of a job at the moment, and finanaces are tight! Any advice, links to guides....or a point in the right direction would be extremely helpful! Thank you so much and God Bless!! Jason Cunningham (Utah)
