lg holding water and not spinning

  • tfdrury Apr 21, 2009

I have an older Hotpoint washing machine model # WLW3400SBLWH. It stopped spinning last week. I tipped it over and checked the pulley is free, the belt is still intacked and everything moves freely. The door switch works fine also. When the machine is asked to spin or swish you can hear the motor turn on, but it doesn't engage. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Open and close lid, listen for 'clicking' sound. If no 'clicking' sound, replace lid switch.
If you have a hidden lid switch (no visible hole around the top where the lid closes) try tightening the screws on the lid hinges.

Water leaking on fast spin

hi Eamon.
this is what i found from the internet.
Washing machine leaks on spin Last updated on February 6th, 2017
Sometimes a washing machine leaks on spin, but not before. If this is the case, either it's going into spin with too much water inside, or something may only be leaking under the pressure and tub movement caused by spinning.
If you can see water running out of the soap drawer during spin it's probably gone into spin without pumping the water away properly. If it wasn't pumping water out at all it would not go into spin, but a partial obstruction can reduce the flow enough to allow a spin with the water unable to escape fast enough. This causes water to be forced up into the drawer or out of the steam vent at the back. If you suspect this check the last section of this article - Washer leaks from drawer
If water is coming from underneath when it spins then it's more likely to be caused by something leaking only under pressure. Check the door seal all around inside for slits and small holes, especially higher up, which may only open up and let water out when the washer is bouncing around on spin.
Other possible causes are hoses inside the machine which have small holes which open up during spin or which leak where they connect to the tub under spin conditions. These type of leaks often leave tell-tale rust or dry detergent marks. After that there could be a crack or small hole high up in the plastic outer tub which only gets exposed to water when it's forced around the tub during spin.
You are looking for something that is moving and allowing water out when the tub bounces around under load, or something high letting water out when it gets thrashed around the top half of the machine on spin. If you can't see anything obvious get a washing machine engineer

Standing water in base of washing machine

Is it a front load machine? If so, remove the kick plate under the door and there should be a plastic filter that screws in on your right (approx 2"-3" in diameter). You'll need a catch pan that's lower than the bottom edge of the filter cap, as water will flow out of it when removed. I had one that would occasionally eat a sock or other small article of clothing, stopping up the drain filter and causing the tub to hold water. The added weight of the water causes the tub to not turn at the RPMs needed, and sometimes not at all. Let me know if this helps.

The water is not draining out and the washing machine is not spinning the water out.

Hi,
If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

Is leaking water at the back and running in the floor the hoses are tight drain pipe is in right

Here's what I've seen. Water will be full, machine goes to spin/drain and expects the water to be pumped out as predicted. If pump is clogged, the pump cannnot pump out water quickly enough and the spinning causes the water to spill over the back of the tub, between the tub and balance ring. The balance ring is never sealed tightly to the tub so water will get through. Fill the basket with water, extra high, hold lid switch down, and see if it drains out fast enough so water doesn't spin out. If this is the case, pull pump, dislodge debris.

The washer's springs configuration

They are hooked from the bottom frame to the carriage that holds the tub. Not sure of the model you have but most Whirlpool (They make kenmore, roper, magic chef and others) There is a ring around the top of the outer tub that is filled with water from the factory. Make sure it still has water inside. It acts as a damper helping to balanced the tub also.

Kenmore Elite Top Load does not spin on spin cycle

Hi, If the inner tub has dropped down, you will need to change the block that holds the tub to the shaft. Remove the agitator cap and then use a 7/16" socket to remove the bolt holding the agitator in.
Lift the agitator out and look at the block holding the inner tub. There should be two slots with two tabs sticking up inside them. You will probably see metal shaving as well.
If this is what you see, please let me know and I can direct you on further repair.

Thanks
Vic

you have a new washer so why not get the service agents out under warranty to fix the faulty machine
ask why there was water in a new machine as that indicates not new but second hand

Eco smart won't drain, smells hot

hi
you commented on hearing water in the machine after the wash , i know that f&p spin bowls have a liquid inside the actual spin bowl system i think it aids in the spin operation of the machine, but if you had something in the drain network then that will stop the machine from emptingout as it all works on a time basis check and see that you are not getting any leaks from the bottom of the machime as your new pump won't last long if it gets wet also if there is water leaking that can be the main seal on the motor shaft failing
cheers grant
