Question about Video Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Sony DCR-HC26 which was purchased in 2007. I've shot about 23 tapes with it without a problem. A week ago I cleaned the heads for the first timeusing the Sony DVM-12CLD mini DV cleaning tape for 10 seconds as instructed. I was capturing several video tapes to my computer this morning when I noticed the Arcsoft Showbiz program didn't show any video when I started capturing the last tape. I stopped the program and used the camera edit feature to play the tape. The picture was there but it had several horizontal color bars across the screen. I then tried the cleaning tape again for 10 seconds to no avail. Can you tell me what is wrong?

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. If running a cleaning tape through the camera doesn't solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Whenever I insert a new video tape on my Sony Handyman DCR-TRV120, it says "C:31:23" and it tells me to eject the tape. Once I take out the video tape, it rather has the film outside of the tape,...

You have a transport problem with the tape feed. If you are up to working in small spaces without damaging adjacent parts, you can try and clean the pinch roller and capstan drive system with alcohol on a Q-tip. Sometimes, there are special cleaning tapes your can purchase that will do the same thing. Assuming that the transport is dirty, you may have a shot at it. If it's excessive wear instead, it's shop time. One more thing. DO NOT USE A CRINKLED TAPE IN YOUR CAMERA. IT WILL TEAR UP THE VERY DELICATE TAPE HEADS PERMANENTLY.

How to transfer sony dcr-hc26 videos to pc using usb cable thanks

The Sony HDR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. No surprises if you can't get USB streaming working.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV-format video by conneting the DV port of the HD camcorder to the Firewire port of your computer. USB won't work. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video. It is as digital as the digital video from flash memory or hard disc drive or DVD based camcorders - only better because it is not compressed as much as the others.

Memory cards are not the only way to store digital video - and while not as good as miniDV tape, memory cards are not as bad as DVD based consumer camcorders...

Firewire IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot (PCI for desktops; PCMCIA or ExpressCard for laptops), so you can add one.

Sony DCR- HC18E Camcorder

Hello there, you are not alone in this problem, I get 100's of other people write on this matter, the tape head cleaners sold are mostly a bit of non abrasive tape type stuff that would not clean a bit of dust off a shiny table, let alone a dirty camera head.
You need to get a proper head cleaning kit with the tape that looks like a white flat shoe lace, run that for 30 sec in camera in seconds your heads will be like new.

My Sony Handycam DCR-HC26 started giving me C:31:23 error ''Reinsert the cassette'' when I try to record on a new Sony tape. I am however able play back a previously recorded Sony tape.

the error c:31:23 error pertains to one of the reel (part that turns the tape) is malfunctioning. although you can play back videos, you would definitely have issue w/ recording, rewinding or fast forwarding the tape.what you can do is to turn the camcorder off.remove the battery and ac adapter for at least a minute.insert the battery or reconnect the adapter.you can also try pressing the reset button (located near the top of the speaker, on the panel where lcd screen goes to).make sure cam is on when you do that.if still your getting this problem, service would be needed for your cam.hope this helps :)

My sony handycam dcr-hc26 door won't close. error C:32:11

Hi,
Remove battery/ power source from camcorder for minute, reattach battery/ power source and close the tape door.
If that does not solve problem then I'm afraid, tape mechanism got defective and will be replaced.
Let me know if you need tape mechanism part number info.
Thanks.

Won't stay powered on; misaligned heads

had simmilar issue with a hi8 cam. tapes will never be able to play right because the heads were mi-aligned from factory. if it comes back and the tape does same thing that the cameras you borrowed, you have to misalign the heads till the image and audio come back.
