Question about Jenn-Air JFC2089HE French Door Refrigerator

Open Question

Our 2006 Maytag Jenair refrigerator model JFC2089HES ser# 11909222JL will not coll. The display has 60 degrees freezer and 75 refig compartment. I unplugged the unit to try to "rest" but that did not work. I tried seting to 0 and 37 and after ~5 seconds the display goes bback to 60 and 75. Is there anything else I can try before calling for service?

SOURCE: refrigerator stopped working, freezer works fine

Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first. See http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA43-57.gif for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.

SOURCE: Warm Fridge Section, Cool freezer section

Problem seems to be solved. I unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in. I'm guessing it needed to be re-set.

SOURCE: Refrigeration side not cold - freezer fine

Please remember the refrigeration side is a empty box the cooling is coming from the freezer side using a fan blowing through a hole cover by a slide and you can slide this cover wide open for colder in the refrigeration side or less as you wish. Hope this can help. God Bless.

SOURCE: I bought a used Jenn Air french door refrigerator

It sounds to me like you're going to have to do some serious electrical checking. There are two electrical solenoid water control valves right behind of the fiber cover where your water line connects to the refrigerator. One solenoid valve is for the water dispenser and the other is for the ice maker. They are mounted together, side by side, on the same metal mounting plate. You two sets of terminals on each solenoid. one set on each solenoid should be hot (register line voltage) when tested between the terminal and ground. the other set of terminals connect two the switches in the water dispenser and ice maker. If have someone push the dispenser switch while you have your ear close to the solenoids, you should hear a clicking sound. I have never seen both of the solenoid valves go bad at the same time. I believe you have a power supply problem to the solenoid assembly itself.

SOURCE: Fridge compartments too warm

There are several possibilities on your model. Compressor start components and Adaptive defrost Control. I would like you to pull away from wall and unplug , rempove the cover over compressor and feel the compressor to tell me if warm, hot or too hot to keep your hand there, Waiting for your response, Sea Breeze

I have a Maytag refig. that is freezing

Sounds just like a defrost condensate drain blockage. Every time the refrigerator defrost if the water does not go to the drip pan below the refrigerator all moisture remains inside freezer and refrigerator. That also could be what some models have is called an auto damper between freezer and fresh food compartments. If moisture freezes there because the defrost condensate drain is blocked it will keep the damper open and fresh food section will not be able to regulate a constant safe temperature of 38 degrees F. Send me your model number and look into back and bottom of freezer. If water seems to be flowing from that area you will need to unplug, remove contents and rear panel of the freezer to get to the defrost pan. Melt the ice and lets try to force a little warm water through the opening with a little Clorox to kill any slime that may be blocking the opening. On some models there is a heater below pan to prevent this. I will just need your model to confirm' I'm really sorry you are having to pay someone that should know things like this, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Refrigerator top rack is warm. Temperature shows 65 degrees

if your freezer can make ice and the ice is dry, the problem is simply air flow into the refig section. A very common cause for a service call that wasnt needed for reefers is the settings. One setting OFF 1-10 usually, operates the compressor. The remaining setting will say , for colder freezer or similar, It opens a little flapper door between the freezer and the fridge section. If you set that one to max or coldest freezer it will actually starve out the fridge section for air ,and you get a cold freezer and warmer box! It happens everytime someone has the problem , its too warm! they peg both controls to coldest! The compressor will coll the freezer sufficiently even if set to 1 and the fridge should be cool too if the setting isnt pegged to coldest setting thus closing down fridge air and making the freezer colder which isnt ever required!

REFIG WONT COOL FREEZER WORKS

As a general condition of what you describe for almost any refrigerator...
check to see if the small circulation fan inside the freezer compartment is working. It should be running and circulating the cold air in the freezer compartment as well as sending some cold air over to the other side where normal food is kept. You may need to replace the fan motor which is a common fault with refrigerators. You may hear it squeel a noise if it still turns the fan blades or it may be quiet and not run at all.
Also most units have adjustable baffles to control the air that goes to the other side see that they are set to allow lots of air circulate. Also...there are on some units a knob that controls the "balance" of air...see that it is adjusted properly.

It sounds like the interior fan has stopped. It should be located behind freezer back panel. Pull out the screws and have a look. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Refig set at 34 degrees and it might be about 45 degres inside what could be the problem

How about the freezer? Is it cold (about 0 degrees Farenheit). If so, there's probably ice build-up blocking air flow from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. Even though modern refrigerators are 'frost free,' they're really not. Over a period of time, frost can build up in areas where air flow is restricted (like the door that controls air flow between the freezer and fresh food compartment). Take everything out of the refrigerator and freezer and allow both to defrost completely. To avoid an odor problem, clean out any food residue that may have been masked when it was frozen. Be sure to LEAVE THE DOORS OPEN while you're cleaning and until you're ready to turn the unit back on and put your food back in. Hope this helps.

Refrigerator not colling

The freezer vents are electricaly controled as is with most of your refrigerator. Inside the fresh food compartment there is a control board part number 12868513 this may be the reason for the problems you are having. I am placing a link for your refrigerator below. Place the model number in the model search feature. This takes you to some models just the same as yours, just choose one. On the left of the screen click on controls. there you will see the part I mentioned. Yor freezer is also not defrosting properly also and this is most likely the control board. Let me know what you find and if you have other questions, Thanks, Sea Breeze
