SOURCE: I have a Lexmark x5470 & I get an error unsupported cartridge

Ink cartriges have chips in them, if the printer does so many prints without getting the "I've had a new Original Cart fitted" it will stop untill, you give it one, regardless if there ink or not

Im afraid it doesn't care that you only need to use the colour cartridge, it is designed to cost you money and make money for lexmark not refillers.

Welcome to our modern world, manufactures make the ink hard to recycle by incorperation of expensive chips that makes refillers, unable to make a easy dollar, because if that want to make cartridges that work they must also fit the expensive chip.

All empty cartridges have a little ink left in them because getting air in ink lines is not a thing we want.

SOURCE: MESSAGE SAYS RIGHT CARTRIDGE INCORRECT

Hello there:
what this is refering to is that the cartridge is either not the right one for the printer or the device is having a problem with that cartridge i would remove the cartridge and verify that it is the right one that goes in their and also since youare having the cartridge out i would clean out the contact area to get rid of the old ink that may be sitting on the contact areas ok
best regards Michael

SOURCE: right cartridge incorrect error message

Take a look at my tip on cartridges it may save you a lot of time and money

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3845491-ink_cartridge

OR

Read on and see if any applies to you.
Check that you removed the protective tape. some cartridges have two of these pieces of tape one over the head and possibly on on the contacts to the printer.

If you recently re-filled or had the cartridge refilled or even bought one of the many cheaper replacement cartridges you should read on

Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset.

Re-filling them will have no effect

If you are lucky you should be able to find either a
chip resetter around on the INTERNET or maybe even local

OR

Even better empty cartridges that
never need to be reset.
The second option is my preference

I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well.

cheaper cartridge problems have been on the rise recently and that is for ALL makes of printer.
If you try to clean the contacts be VERY careful cleaning contacts and ONLY use isopropynol on a lint free bud or cloth.
Also be very gentle.

I have seen the contacts cleaned and cartridges ruined with other methods of cleaning.
Rubbing too hard can also cause a badly set chip to move making it inoprable.

I dont like full prices replacements either which is why I always provide the links
I usually reccomend that people take back any cartridge that does not work right from the get-go.

I dont know of anyone who has had a problem doing that be it a shop refill or otherwise.

No matter if I paid $1 or $100 for a cartrdige I would still expect it to work
Hope this gives you the information you need

You can try to do the Clean Cartridge function on your printer. While on Copy mode, press Menu -> Tools -> Maintenance -> Clean Cartridges. You can try to insert a known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty. If your original Lexmark cartridge is faulty, please contact Lexmark technical support and have it replaced. Thanks.

HI,

I was getting that message too, for both cartridges, I did a search on the internet and found that its a manufacture problem and it has a little upgrade program you can run to fix this problem, and viola, it started working, so happy now!

I have a lexmark X5470 bought a lexmark #33 color cartridge. the printer states: right cartridge incorrect. at the store it said that it is compatable with my printer. how do i get my printer to work?

According to the Lexmark site an number 33 color cartridge is the correct color cartridge for the printer.

Are you trying to print potographs? If so, then you would need the #32 cartridge and the color cartridge together in the priter.

If you believe that the cartridge is defective, contact Lexmark at 1-800-232-3000 and let them know you received a defective cartidge.

Make sure the cartridge is pressed completely down in the carrier. If it isn't installed correctly, the printer won't recognize that it's there. It's also possible the cartridge is defective, so in that case you should return it to the store where you bought it and get a new one.
