Error 0502 My paper feeder does not grasp paper and feed it. I hear clicking and a struggle, but then it stops right after the cartriges come to rest and should at that point be ready to print.

I can't get my paper to feed. Right when it makes the noise to do the actual printing it jams and stops. I was told to "check the roller and feeder", I looked up in there. I don't see anything unusual.

I don't think this website is going to help me. I need more of a mechanical answer. I need to take it to a service place.

I need my money back, please? I just got desperate and I still am, but this isn't going to work.

What I have here is something mechanical. a mechanical clamping action. It clamps but it just won't feed. I tried all the technical solutions in a chat sessionm with hp and we came to the conclusion that it needs to be serviced or else replaced with a new one.

I really just want to get my money back for the service offered here. I appreciate it, but it doesn't help and I need that money to buy a new printer with.

    Thank you

Problems are the same with the squeezing and crimping of the paper and I do not know what to do about the paper output slot.

About 90percent of your feeder problem is the feeder clamps at the end
feeder. The problem is that you have something jammed under the clamp
causing a shift in the way the paper is feeding in.

To check this, simply feed the paper reverse, lift the clamps and clear the jamm.

If there is any chance you are in a dry climate, your rollers have shrunk from dehydration, yeah sounds weird but I fix more printers here in Nevada because of this. Take a wide flat brush and paste clear water in the rollers as you turn the printer on and off. I bet the rollers turn during this power on cycle. Do this several times until you've really drenched the rollers.

BTW, do this with the printer over a copy of a newspaper in case any dry ink links out.

Let the surface of the rollers sort of dry out and try to feed paper again. If it does feed now, that was your problem and you'll want to feed paper until the rollers have cleaned themselves off and the paper no longer has ink trails on it.

I recommend, before taking anything apart, to simply turn off your printer, then slide the cartriges all the way to the left, and gently wipe the encoding strip running right behind the cartrige carrier. it will look like a translucent piece of plastic strip with lines on it. Wipe it down with a soft cloth gently, then slide the cartriges all the way to the right, and repeat this process. also clean and lightly lube the guide rail for the cartridges.
When you are done, simply close the cover, power back up, and see if it will print a test page for you.
Hope that helps...

Re-position the Encoder Strip on your all in one Printer

To re-position the encoder strip, perform the following steps:

    1. Remove the power cord from the unit.

    2.
Lift the lid of the unit, just below the scanner portion of the
All-In-One, to expose the inside of the unit where the printer
    cartridges are located.

    3. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.

    4. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.

    5.
Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up
to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge
    carrier.

    NOTE
NOTE: There is a small slot that the encoder
strip fits into, which is going to be located on the back of the ink
    cartridge carrier.

    6. Gently press the strip first to the rear and then forward to ensure that it is seated correctly.

    7. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right to check the positioning of the encoder strip.

    8. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the lid to the unit.

    9. Re-connect the power supply to the All-In-One.

    10. Press the Power button. If the encoder strip was re-seated correctly, the Hardware Error: 0502 code will not appear.

See attached pictures, one for an out or place encoder strip, the other for a well placed strip.

    Other
faults that can bring up this error is a carriage rail that needs
cleaning and oiling (so you might want to do that while your inside the
thing), and also obstructions to the paper ways. Try removing paper
jams, and put the printer upside down to shake loose anything that
    might jam the mechanism.

    Good luck!

this one is of an in position strip

Information on how to use rear feed

1. Prepare your doc/file for printing.
2. Insert card stock with narrow side of stock in slot in back of printer until it hits rollers and stops. Don't force in any card stock thicker than max. rated.
3. Change printer setup to feed from rear.
4. Print.

Depending on what software you print from, you may need to change this each time you print if you intend to keep printing from that "tray."

I have just purchased ink cartridge 830 black for canon ip 1800 but the lights are blinking orange please tell me why this is happening

I received this response from canon.com. Hope it helps you.

If the paper feed rollers become dirty, they may not be able to properly
feed paper due to the feed roller's slippage. If paper does not feed
correctly, perform the following to clean the paper feed rollers:

1. Open the Printer properties.

For Windows Vista

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'.

Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the
'Control Panel'.

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Home Edition

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and
Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition

a. Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and
'Printers and Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab and click 'Roller Cleaning'.

3. Remove all sheets of paper from the auto sheet feeder.

4. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: Clicking 'OK' will activate the paper feed rollers 30 times. This
activation will take about 90 seconds. Do not perform other operations
until this operation has finished.

5. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

6. After the continuous paper feeding operations in step 5 have
finished, load three sheets of plain paper and click 'OK'.

7. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: The following message is displayed when the paper is fed and ejected.

8. Click 'OK'.

Roller Cleaning is completed.

If the issue continues to persist, try fanning the paper before
reseating in the automatic sheet feeder.

Follow these steps to fan the paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder(ASF):

1. Remove all documents from the ASF.

2. Check for any obstructions.

3. Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.

4. Align the edges of the paper.

5. Insert the document stack, face up, into the ASF until you hear a
beep.

6. Adjust the document guides to the width of the document.

If fanning the paper does not help resolve the issue then the iP1800
printer will require service.
