Kenmore model 11044832200 ( ourchased 4/26/03); recently ran a very large load and after done clothes wet. Tried spin only cycle - drum won't spin. removed most of clothes and tried a drain/spin cycle....nothing. Removed all wet clothes and put in afew in a new wash cycle; won't spin. Drum spins freely by hand. Water appears to be draining OK, seems to be internal to washer. Advice please?? Hank

My issue is NOT with draining but the drum spinning....you didn't address the issue presented!

I removed the back of the washer and found the drum drive belt have come off the motor pulley. Compressing the drum that is supported by (2) shock absorbers facilitated reinstalling the belt ( just rotated it back on the large drum drive pulley while depressing the shocks).

As far as your advice on cleaning the filter you can avoid water going everywhere when you unscrew the clean out access ( and it will ) by removing the single screw holding down the pump assembly thus allowing you to position a funnel completely under the front of the clean out - no water spilled.....now that I fixed this myself , provided clarification on the single bit of non-essential advice you provided and offered your clients insight on what to look for when confronted with my original posted symptoms will you NOT charge me the fee? Seems only fair!

Hi,
Remove the bottom front panel 2-3 screws at the very bottom. Observe inside for tech manual this will give you troubleshooting instructions. I would start with cleaning the pump filter screen then follow instructions for troubleshooting if problem persists.

    Hi,
Sorry for the misunderstanding further advice now that I have more information would be to thoroughly inspect the rear drum pulley to make sure it is not warped or bent do this by turning slowly by hand and observing the gap between drum and pulley almost any amount of movement side to side would require replacing the bent pulley. Then check the inner drum for excess movement due to possible rear drum bearing failure by pushing up from the inside to see if you have excess movement due to the high speed that you machine use in final spin there should be little or no up and down movement. Belts do not just fall off there is usually a reason and if not corrected it will continue to happen in the future.

The most likely cause for not spinning is a typically a clogged screen even though yours appeared to be draining that does not mean that it drained completely it can appear to be drained but still have a significant amount of water in the bottom of tub. You had said not spinning I should have asked if it was turn or moving at all in any cycle I was only providing the best advice I could on the limited information provided. Following the tech-sheet would have lead to solving the problem. If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
Thank you and have a great day.

During the spin cycle it spins correctly until the last 2-3 minutes and then it just fluffs clothes

Some machines used a variable speed slow down process to avoid clothing damage, this removes the items from the outside of the drum where if the clothing was left for a length of time after the cycle has finished it could damage the fibres, this way the clothing is also easier to remove from the machine and promotes airflow over the items

My kenmore 417 wahser making too much noise, it looks like the inner tub hitting the outer plastic housing. How can I fix it?

Have you tried moving the clothes around in the drum to balance the drum BEFORE you was them? If that works, you have solved the problem! Most people forget that when cloth gets wet it gets heavy so leaving the clothes unevenly placed in the drum dry will make a real problem when they get wet!

Noise/not draining on spin cycle

I had that problem and it was the drain pump trying to drain but it coulsn't because it had lint, plastic, 3 underwires a looney some costume jewellery stuck in the pump. By the pump underneath you'll see a black plastic boot leading away from the pump. disconnect this and inside you'll find the lint trap and if you dig you'll probably find the culprit that stopping your pump from moving. Put it all back together and Voila!

Burly Bob,

Is this the same model as listed by the previous poster? If so, does the washer ATTEMPT to go into the spin cycle? That is, does the timer advance to spin cycle properly, and can you hear the transmission or drive motor engage?

Kenmore 44092/spin cycle

It turns out that there was a sock stuck within the pump in the washing machine. I removed the back cover and removed all the excess water, because once the sock was removed, the water was free to escape. I just removed the hose that connects to the pump and felt the sock, and was able to remove it. Once I hooked everything back up, the washing machine ran great.
