You should only see the computer icon when plugging the 350 into a USB port on the PC. If you see it when plugging in a car charger/adapter, then there may be a problem with the mini-USB port on the 350 or the charger is an after-market charger that is not electrically compatible with a Garmin charger. Please see this link for more info: http://www.sharc.net/gps_charger_repair.htm
while its plugged in to the car outlet, make sure the green (some have red) light is on, on the adapter.if it is not on, try a charger you know is good in the same outlet to verify the outlet is good. if it is, check the end of the charger that plugs in to the car outlet. check the fuse in the tip of the car charger(adapter) by unscrewing the silver tip off the charger and remove the fuse and see if its blown. take the fuse to a local electronics store for a replacement.
if you can verify that the car charger is ok, try plugging it in to your computer using the usb cable. the 1412 should charge with the usb cable. if it still doesnt turn on, try and reset the unit, little pin hole on the side.
The battery has probably drained to the point of being "empty", such that it's putting an enormous "load" on the incoming power from your power adapter. For all intents and purposes, it's sucking up so much of the incoming power from your power cable, your Garmin thinks there's little, if any, power available. That's because the drained battery is acting almost like a "short circuit", in electrical terminology. Try leaving the unit plugged into the charger for a day or two or three; if the battery hasn't been permanently damaged, it may come back to life enough fully, or at least enough to not act like a "short" across the incoming power power.
We did not have a charger to plug in the GPS to charge, so my husband plugged it into a battery charger. I guess the battery charger was low, so it drained the unit rather than charging it. It was so low it would not come on again. I have an electric charger that adapts the car charger into AC current, so I tried that and the unit came on. Problem solved and the GPS is working again. Thanks for responding.
I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .
Hi, You can get the power adapter pin replaced at an Electronic store. Radio Shack has it but it must be special ordered, have you tested the power cord? I think that you might be right about the power socket cause thats what most common problem of the ones that I repair.
You can get a charger that fits in the tiny little charging port, on the lower right side next to the "cradle teeth". But of course you will STILL not be able to sync.
Radio Shack has a set of port adapters, the little yellow one fits. Be SURE to plug it in the correct way around. (Bring iQue to Radio Shack when you buy adapter.)
