Would you please specify at least the make (& preferably also the model) of your laptop?
BIOS passwords in most
laptops are stored in a special
chip on the motherboard and the only way to bypass this password is
to replace this laptop security chip. Laptop BIOS passwords cannot be
bypassed or reset by removing or shorting the CMOS battery. Further,
doing this may cause other system errors and complicate the recovery or
your system.
An easier alternative is to replace the laptop's motherboard. Or, you can try the following service:

Hope this helps solving your problem.

Please clarify, what is the model and make of your laptop (I guess it's a laptop), which operating system is installed on it? Is there CD-Rom or Dvd Drive installed? Please include whatever you've tried without success so that I may not repeat those tips. Thanks.

It is a Dell Inspiron 1525. It has Vista Home Premium installed and a DVD drive.
The problem arose after the keyboard developed a fault and I inadvertently entered the BIOS password (which I set myself) incorrectly. Now it's locked. I have contacted Dell, but the warranty is out of date.
I would pay them but why should I? I paid £400 for it 2 years ago and I should be able to do what I like with it, not being held to randsom like this.
Thanks in advance
Sorry about that.
