SAMSUNG DVD-SH855M RECORDER WILL NOT ACCEPT BLANK MEMOREX DVD+R DL (DUAL LAYER) 8.5GB DISKS. IT REJECTS THEM AT THE AUTOMATIC FORMAT STAGE. THE MANUAL STATES THAT THE DEVICE WILL RECORD TO DUAL LAYER DISCS.

  • banyard Jun 18, 2008

I HAVE HAD THE RECORDER LESS THAN A MONTH AND THE SHOP WHER I BOUGHT IT IS 200 MILES AWAY IN ENGLAND WHEREAS I AM OFF-SHORE.

  • banyard Jun 18, 2008

WHAT MAKE OF BLANK DUAL LAYER / DOUBLE LAYER DISK WOULD YOU SUGGEST AS COMPATIBLE WITH THE SAMSUNG DVD-SH855M? IT WILL TAKE (ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL) BOTH DVD-R/RW & DVD+R/RW.

Hi-

How about other brands? compatibility is one thing that technology can not control, technology has its limitations. try using a different blank dvd+r DL because there might be a compatibility issue with these thing or upgrade may be either needed on the software or hardware firmware update for it to work. keep me posted if you have questions. thanks!

according to CNET testing these DL(double layered) disks are NOT compatible with a slew of readers.

methinks you need another dvd disk, or an upgrade to your Samsung player

My Samsung DVD Recorder rejects my blank DVD disc after having used it 2 years without any problem. What is causing this?

Hi, I think I have the answer. Try putting in a different type of disc, start with going to a simpler format of disc-if yoou were using dvd r/w +- for example then go to plain dvd r. If you were using dvd r's-then try putting in a data disc ( cd-r ) and try recording a song. I you can record in a simpler format I'd have to say that your samsung's probably reached the end of it's life cycle and is just plain getting weak. I'm sorry I didn't have better news. You may try a " LENS CLEANING " dvd also-as there have been cases of actual dirt being a culprit. I hope this was helpful, please comment though, Thanks and good luck , Prodzilla

When trying to play a computer generated DVD +R DL, I get a message that says this type of disc cannont be played. please insert a different disc

The disc is probably an incompatible format for this model player. Even if the disc is finalised in your PC, or in a DVD recorder, this player may still be unable to read it. Some DVD recorder/players do not recognise DVD+R (or +R DL) media, while others won't recognise +/-RW discs (except CD-RW); this is a model limitation - not a fault with either your player, the PC burning software or the discs themselves.

Nothing can be done to fix this except purchasing a model which accepts multimedia (+R/DVD-RAM etc). The question is, does your player play ANY normal DVDs? I am guessing your player will accept DVD-R DL discs just fine since this is standard as well as proper shop-bought movies.

The DVD Burner will not burn a Memorex DVD - R . Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model MSI DVD Burner? Or, Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model Samsung TS H652...

You are on the right track. Every "multi-format" DVD recorder, DVD burner and DVD-RW drive I have ever owned has had problems with one type of media or another. This is because the discs all have their own patented dye mixtures, and each is a little bit different.

I have problems using Memorex DVD-R discs on my Toshiba DVD recorder. The only drive I can get good results with Memorex DVD-R's is on my Memorex DVD drive.

For DVD-R media, I have had the best success with TDK DVD-R's.So far, they have worked on all my devices.

You may want to try DVD+R media. I use Memorex Lightscribe DVD+R and for dual layer recording, I use Ativa DVD+R DL discs, both of which have worked very well and I rarely have to throw one away.

It takes allot longer, but on my PC I always use the "verify" function to make sure I get a good copy.

How to burn dual layer dvd with windows dvd maker only 150 minutes pie showing

Everything is the same except you have to choose "DVD-R 9.0G" at the bottom of the DVD maker window. R4.5G is single layer and 9.0G is dual layer.

Let me know if you need more help,
Sai.

What kind of dvds do i use for my memorex dual format dvd recorde

Look at front of it. It should say RW DVD + R DL or -R DL. That means you can use DVD+R discs or DVD-R disks 4.7 Gb (depends which logo you have). If its RW DVD RAM DL it can be any +R or -R. In addition you can use DVD+/- R DL (dual layer) disks with 8.5 Gb capasity. But the cost is at least 2 -3 times higher than regular DVD.
Good Luck

Cannot record on +DL - Dual Layer Discs. Maybe it is the brand?

The discs could be the problem. Even in the same model you will find some that reject a certain type of disc, and yet the one made directly after it on the production line will be fine. The same applies to PC burners.

Other times those same discs will be rejected or accepted. It's all about the fine lines in production. A minor difference to things like the laser when it was assembled, or the dye used in the discs is all it takes.

This is why most companies will have a reccomended set of discs that are known to work due to them being manufactured to a higher standard. Between the higher and lower is not alot, but enough to cause problems.

Look for a place that sells discs as singles, then get one and try it out. The other thing to keep in mind is the more expensive discs will hold the data better, longer and with less errors.
