Question about Brother MFC-9440CN Laser Printer

1 Answer

Since changing to Windows 7 when I try to scan from the Control Center 3 with my my Brother MFC9840CDW I get a message saying "Unable to write this file to destination" ... however I'm the Administrator and as far as I can see all folders and flies should be accessible as I've set up the scan destination folder correctly.

In win 7 by ticking share this folder option means u can see it but it wont let u wright to it u ned to go deeper in to options and enable read/wright for that particular folder.
or if u have a user name and password for ur computer u need to input tose details to ur scanner so it can authenticate with the computer.

When I try to scan to file via Control Center 3, I receive a message that says:

I had this same irritating issue - after uninstalling and re-installing several times I decided to check the folders to see if there was any remaining Brother folders or files hanging around. First I went to the Windows Twain32 folder and removed the remaining folder in there - then I went to Programs files (both of them in Windows 7) and moved all Brother Folders AND Control Center folders to a created folder on the desktop (just in case) - reinstalled the software and it worked! Hope this helps someone because I tried all the other fixes and they did not work for me.

My brother 5840CN. lit says unable to print. the manual says to take the jam out - there was no jam. Turn it off, then on. i did that. It still says unable to print, look at troubleshooting page

errr.....No, no it does not. The Manual says that "unable to clean" means one of two things.....
1. The MFC has a mechanical problem.-OR-2. A foreign obstacle, such as a clip or ripped paper, is in the MFC.
but regardless, I don't believe it *IS* a 'cleaning' problem per se.Try resetting the power purge counter.

Press menu > Mono Start > 4x Arrow up after another. All lights will flash.
1. Power clean - Press 7>6>4 >Mono? Start.
2. Power Purge: 7>6 >3 >Mono Start.
Press 9>9 to exit maintenance mode. Run a print quality test print.

Unable to write the file to "Destination Folder"

A recent (Dec 2015) Windows 10 update seems to have removed the access required for the service account used by Brother to write to the hard drive. This fixed the scan function for me...

  1. Navigate to the directory where you write the files (C:\Users\YourID\Pictures\ControlCenter3)
  2. Right click on the Scan directory and open Properties.
  3. Click Security tab.
  4. Click Edit
  5. Select WMPNetworkSvc
  6. Allow Full Control
  7. Click OK

We have a Brother MFC-9840CDW with a fuser that's needing to be replaced. Brother says the fuser is part that "is not recommended to be done by the consumer." Are their hazards for changing...

The fuser can be replaced by opening the back cover and removing 2 screws.

Wont print - "Unable to Init. E3"

I think I solve the issue for scanning so far. Here's what you do goto control panel -> Scanners and Cameras. Then right click into propertise, then check Specify your machine by address. It should already have the printer IP address listed in the box below. If not our can goto to your router and see the ip in the DHCP Client List .

After this I'm able to use the Control Center 3 scanning.

I think the problem was the NODE name list in the setting in my winxp pro does not match the actual NODE name the printer is using.

MFC 8860DN No applications are registered for this event. Take no action: When I push the scan button on the printer to start scan to file

Try this:
1. Locate the Brother Control Center application. It will be running in the system tray (usually near the system clock). Right click on the Control Center and left click on CLOSE. NOTE: The update cannot be performed if the Brother Control Center is left running.
2. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:
3. Type in X:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\SKIN\ (Note: Replace X: with the letter of your local disk drive.)
4. Right click on the MODERNSTYLE folder
5. Select CUT
6. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:
7. Type in C:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\
8. Click EDIT -> PASTE
9. Restart the PC
10. The Control Center will open and you should see the icon appear nearyour system clock if the control center does not start automatically: Open the Brother Control Center 3 by clicking START -> (ALL) PROGRAMS ->BROTHER -> (MODEL NUMBER) -> CONTROLCENTER 3. Your issue should be resolved.
