Question about GE JE2160 Microwave Oven

GE JE2160 - 3 years old. Here's a "test" I ran

I finally was able to fix the problem. The primary door switch (interlock) had a burned contact inside the switch body, as well as burned surrounding plastic. It would no longer "click" and tended to stay in "closed" position. [The switch is a "normally open" design (NO).] When this occurs and the door is opened, the "monitor" switch causes the fuse to blow out. GE wants $50 for this part. However, I was able to find a universal design of microswitch at Fry's Electronics. It had the same rating (15 amp at 250 volts), same body size, both NO and NC terminals, but with a lever arm which I had to remove by opening the case. Cost was $2.47 + tax. (PRICELESS!). So far so good. I also had to buy a set of Torx driver bits for tamperproof screws to be able to remove the oven cover. (The hole in the end of the bit goes over the tamperproof pin of the screw).

I also viewed a YouTube video which was helpful at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsWTCnACq...

SOURCE: GE JVM1440 doesn't work, appears to be the primary interlock

I would refer you back to my solution here. It has links for ordering parts, and it talks about securing your door switch to its mount, etc. You may need to realign things, too.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

You will need the
free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

WHAT WILL MAKE MY GE MICROWAVE WES1384SM2SS FUSE KEEP BLOWING I REPLACED IT ONCE AND AS SOON AS I OPEN THE DOOR IT BLEW AGAIN

The fuse is there to protect your home in case something has gone wrong inside your microwave. Since the fuse has blown twice, you can safely assume that there is something wrong inside. It may be fixable, it may not be economic to fix it. Impossible to troubleshoot electronics without the unit and test equipment.

Yeah pal, you've not gone deep enough yet. You'll find a power wire bare inside the unit, pull it apart and tape that wire up to stop it from grounding out and blowing the fuse.

No sorry there is none... look what usually happens is the magnetron, or high power diode, or Oower Supply goes faulty, a magnetron can cost between $95 - $150, or more...and usually that is NOT the only part that will/would need replacing. Cut your losses, and get a firm "Quote" from a repair center, or get a new one, with a 5 year Warranty.

Ge spacesaver microwave ...it is 5 years old and stopped heating

I have an over the oven microwave that blew a magnetron after 4 years. Could be the same thing. It was out of warranty for the free labor, so I took it apart (I'm kind of a geek) and found out the magnetron was gone. Shortening the story: I bought a new magnetron from an online place and replaced it and it works fine. If you have someone replace your magnetron, see if you can get it for free-they have a long warranty on the magnetron ($150 part) and at 5 years, you probably qualify. Rich

Inside unit is a cylinder fuse which can blow for a number of reasons. External cover needs to be removed to access. If you are confident in doing this and can find & check the fuse then it would be my first guess. If fuse is OK then you will need to have repaired. If fuse isblown & you replace then it blows again, you will need to have repaired. regards
