Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

I forgot my username and password

Hello there.

To remove the username and password of your router you just need to reset it. Here is how to reset it:

1. Check the back of your router and look for the reset button (it is a small button inside a small hole)

2. Push it using a pin or anything similar, and hold it for about 15 seconds.

Now you can connect with it without any passwords.

I have a wgr614 netgear router and I bought my daughter's ipod touch but i forgot my password and login to set her up with internet.?

READ ALL BEFORE DOING>> You can wipe out the old password by pressing the reset button usually located next to where the power goes in. It's recessed, so you'll need a pen tip or a paper clip to hold it down for about ten seconds, then pull the power and replace power.

Now you can use your browser to access it to re-configure it, and re-install password.
You will have to do complete setup again.
If your provider setup is not automatic, make sure you have the info needed BEFORE wiping it out.

Do you have your Smart Wizard installation CD?

Here is a link which will walk you through the setup. Download the page to your pc or print it out BEFORE wiping out the router.

I forgot my user name and logon domain

If you've forgotten the Router password, then press the Router Reset button (a small point) located next to the Ethernet port on the Router to restore the Router to factory settings.
After resetting the Router to factory defaults, use the default name and password.

Router Login:
Login Name: admin
Login Password: password

I forgot my password. Can you assist?

In the worst case if u really do not remember your password, then the best way is to reset your router to it factory default configuration setting. To do this, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router:
1) Press and hold the Default Reset button until the power light blinks on (about 10 seconds).
2) Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.
If the router fails to restart or the power light continues to blink or turns solid amber, the unit
may be defective.

I forgot my netgear password, so I'm working out of a non-secured airport. I would like to secure it, but I don't know how.

Hi, You can reset the router by pressing the reset button (a small hole) with a pin / needle for 30 secs.
After then, the password would be set to the factory settings, which should be the default password as it came with the router and installation CD.
Follow the initial setup procedures that you followed when you got that router.

In your setup click the 'Erase' button, this will reset it to factory settings.
If you forgot the password or IP and can't do this, there is a reset button on the back of the unit. Hold it in for about 10 seconds until the power light blinks on. Then release the button and allow the router to reboot. This information is in your manual. If you've lost your manual, click here.

I lost my CD

You can reset your Netgear router/wireless MR814 router to the factory settings from within the router manager. The reset procedure removes all user-configured settings and returns the router to the original factory settings.

For this reason, only reset the router if you encounter problems that can't be solved with other methods.

Step 1: Check that your Netgear router/wireless MR814 router is properly connected with your system or not. If it is OK, then press reset button on Netgear router for at least 10 seconds. The 'test' light should flash during this process.

Step 2: Now open browser and enter Netgear's IP address into the address bar. Generally, '' is the Netgear router IP address but you can find specific IP address in Netgear router manual.

Step 3: Now enter your default username and password to log in to router.

Step 4: Click 'Erase' button under the 'Revert to Factory Default Settings'. This process will erase all your previous changes that have been made to the router and restore the configuration settings to factory setting. Don't interrupt the process until the process is finished.

Once the router's 'test' light has stopped blinking and the configuration page you are on has refreshed, the router has been reset.
