Question about Kenwood VR-309

Open Question

Hi I have a Kenwood vr-309 av surround system and I have a center speaker problem. I thought it was the speaker so I took the speaker to a big box company, which I had taken apart. I had the speaker plus each connection tested, and the tech reassembled it and connected to a new receiver and it sounded great. I purchased new wire to connect to the receiver. Now I know the problem is in the receiver. Is there anything that I can fix or would it be cheaper to buy a new less expensive receiver?

I don't know how to get all speakers to work

Sounds like your surround settings are not correct. Try selecting a prologic surround mode and see if that turns on all speakers for you.

Manuals help. Read them. Nothing in your receiver is actually a multichannel source so you'll be needing to understand the external sources that originate that kind of programming. Manuals.

'Large' is not literal in the context of Bass Management. It refers to the ability of a given speaker to handle REAL bass. Yes = Large, No = Small. 'Small' redirects bass from that speaker channel to the sub.

Web search concepts like bass management, speaker placement, multichannel sound, digital audio, etc.

Connect a Sony SA-W3800 powered subwoofer to a kenwood receiver

Yes. It needs to know you have a subwoofer or it won't send low frequencies out to one. Then you have to calibrate its level to match the rest of your speakers. Hit the SETUP section in the manual (available at retrevo.com).

I have a vr 309 kenwood reciever with a bad subwoofer port because sub doesnt produce sound through it but does through another reciever, is there a fuse or capacitor just for this output i can check or...

Are you sure the VR309 is sending a signal out through the sub port? Attach one of your other speakers to it as a test (low volume). Then get back to us.

There are such things as user settings that affect this.

I have a kenwood vr-707 it gets surround sound on dvd/vcr but I can't get surround sound on just tv.

Well you have a built in decoder/surround processor that will detect a signal with the surround sound info(dvd/sat.receiver/cable converter etc.) and will then process it to the different speakers on your system. In the absence of that signal it will process it as standard stereo sound(two front speakers). You may want to look in your receiver functions/menu for simulated surround.
Hope this will help.

Turns on then shuts off like it has a bad fuse

HI...

Check to see that all the speakers are firmly connected at BOTH ends.
Also,if the receiver has speaker select switches, see if turning off the speakers allows it to stay on.

Let me know , Thanks

Surround sound not working properly

Hi guys,

Make sure that your sound aka dvd or whatever is set for a DTS (5.1) set your dvd at bitstreem and your receiver to automatic detection. When your movie will start you will heard your Receiver Relay//Mosfet clicking and a Red led will say DTS once you get there you will be able to select your Doldy digital surround the real one.

Ps: if you want to reset your VR-309 to default HOLD the POWER button for 5 sec unplug it from the wall hold it for 5sec while unplugged and replug it will be rested to default.
