SOURCE: Philips 46PP9302 46 in. Rear projection -

The power supply section is not working.
Common possibilities are:
- Convergences amps have failed overloading the supply
- High-voltage section (flyback transformer) has failed
(happens sooner or later, about 8 years typical))
- CRT tube has failed overloading the supply
- Power surge has popped the power input circuit.
(Fuse, rectifier diodes, turn-on relay etc)
- One of a hundred of electrolytic capacitors has failed short overloading the supply. They dry out with age, are cheap to replace, but hard to find which one it is.
- Or any of many other possibilities.

In short, you need a experianced tech to troubleshoot this.

It is likely the projection lamp is weak, causing the picture to cycle on and off. Take the lamp out and examine the reflector. If it is dull and cloudy, it's time to replace the lamp. A new lamp will have a reflector that is shiny and looks like a mirror. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

Have convergence IC's replaced. I believe this unit uses STK-392-570 convergence IC's Only one has gone bad but replace them both, because if one has failed then the other is not far behind, for Blue and Green. One handles Red, One handles BLUE and Grn. There are only two of them in the set, They are the two largest IC's in the entire set.

Lamp Problems

Rear-Projection TVs have a lamp, which picks up the picture and projects it on the TV screen. A burned-out or connected lamps are two of the most common problems for Rear-Projection TVs. First, you will want to confirm the bulb is still good. If the bulb is bad then then replace it immediately. Second consult your user manual and verify the lamp and lamp cover are installed properly. Most Rear-Projection TVs have warning light which notify you when there are lamp problems. Again consult the user's manual to see what each light means.

Overheating

Temperature is a common reason why many Rear-projection TVs do not perform well when they get to hot. You may start to see your TV shutting down automatically when it overheats. Here are a couple of things you can do to prevent overheating. First make certain any TV ventilation ports are free and clear of debris and dust. Second make sure the TV has enough room for airflow. Third, the temperature in the room should be around 72 degrees. Due to the high degree of heat generated by a rear-projection TVs, it is not advisable to watch TV on a hot days when you don't run the air condition. This could cause damage to your TV.

Configuration Problems

Improperly configuring TV setting can cause problems. Verify the TV settings are set correctly. First, brightness and contrast should not be set to high or to low because this can cause poor picture images. Second, adjust the color on the TV when the picture displays colors poorly. Third, if you are having sound issues then check to make sure the volume is not muted or turn down all the way.
Reset component settings. Usually, the problems you encounter with a projection TV may be resolved through the resetting to its factory settings. If you experience inaccuracies in the color, reset the television's PerfectTint/PerfectColor capabilities. Simply press the Menu tab and then highlight "Perfect Color" using your right key arrow. After this, press "Enter" and then "Reset" in order to reset to factory settings. If you have audio / video problems (VCR or DVD player), simply press "Menu" and highlight the "Reset" option.

TV turned off itself

Can you still turn it on?
If so, does it stay on with sound?

If the sound is ok and the picture is blue (even when changing channels, inputs, etc.) the lamp may have gone out.

Can you see the TV menu when you press the menu button on the remote or TV?

Try going into the menu and find something called, "center channel input." If it is on, the sound will not work. Turn it off, and the sound should be restored.

If you still can see the DirecTV guide and menu, the problem could be on your satellite receiver and not the TV. Unplug your receiver and plug it back.
If the rebooting did not work, I would suggest to swap the satellites receivers and see if it works.
Good Luck.
