If the splotches are a shawdowy black and look like mold growing between the Lens, its most likely dirt or water spots on the bottom of the large mirror. I cleaned mine and missed a few water spots on the bottom of the large mirror and the splotches (spots) showed on the screen. Other than Dirt, or water spots, There is nothing else that I can think of that would cause this. Unless the Someone has cleaned the screen and it soaked up between the lenes. But it Takes about 30 minutes to disassemnble, give it a good cleaning and put it back together.
It is very common for this model from what you spoke. If you handy return to me, Big Irish, and I will continue to help you.
99.9 % of the time of what you stated it sounds like a shorted CRT, picture tube. I have seen hundreds.
First, call the manufacture and complain about your concern and ask them for a CONCESSION because your tube has gone out.
2.If that does not work ; call a factory authorized service dealer to confirm problem and get an estimate, then return ti #1.
Good Luck, Day, Big Irish. I hope I helped.
Try the new lamp as indicated by the blink codes. That may resolve the problem. If not, the problem is in the "light engine" portion of the set which should be covered under warranty.

The blue filter is burnt out. A very common problem in Zenith DLPs.
There are 3 color filters, 1 blue (a pinkish color), 1 green (a grayish
brown) and 1 red (it is red) they give you your colors for you picture.
This is a simple fix.
can see it in certain lighting
and even when the TV is off! It will appear lighter than the
surrounding areas at times and can be annoying. I called Toshiba and
had a service man come out and even though he acknowledged that this is
common, Toshiba will not replace the screen.
