Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50" Rear Projection HDTV

Spots in top center portion of screen

Spots or splotches appear to be yellow or pinkish when viewed on lighter back ground

My unit began to show reddish or pinkish smudges on screen after 3 years or so. This is not dirt on the surface.  This is something else.  It is now 41/2 years old and these splotches or smudges now cover the whole screen, darker and closer at the center, radiating out in all directions with lesser splotches.  When I first noticed this I contacted Sony and was told the unit was no longer under warranty. Sony said there was a know problem with the units 3 color module.  Dust or dirt was thought to be the culprit.  I was told to have the unit serviced by a licenced repair shop and submit a claim for POSSIBLE reembursement.  The replacement module cost $1,800.00 plus labor = over $2,000.00!!!!!  I bought the unit for $2,300.00 and was not about to sink in that amount without assurance I would be reembursed.  Back then I did find a web page that detailed a way to remove the module myself and clean it.  I can no longer find that site.
Does anyone know of a method to fix this?  Please help!

I have a hitachi 50vs69a with 2 yellow spots in the middle of the t.v when powerd on.....black when off. these spots almost resemble states...there is also blue splotches in the middle of these spots. any...

Yes, if the spots are round or teardrop it may be burnt picture tubes.

Easy to confirm this by covering lens of tubes one at a time with set on and see which removes the blotches.

What happened in a lot of these sets is the set arcs and burns a black dot dead center in one or all three of the screens of the picture tubes used--fatal case and permanent.

My tv has black splotches or pools on the bottom

If the splotches are a shawdowy black and look like mold growing between the Lens, its most likely dirt or water spots on the bottom of the large mirror. I cleaned mine and missed a few water spots on the bottom of the large mirror and the splotches (spots) showed on the screen. Other than Dirt, or water spots, There is nothing else that I can think of that would cause this. Unless the Someone has cleaned the screen and it soaked up between the lenes. But it Takes about 30 minutes to disassemnble, give it a good cleaning and put it back together.

Color splotch when TV is powered on, then TV powers down automatically

Good Day;
It is very common for this model from what you spoke. If you handy return to me, Big Irish, and I will continue to help you.

99.9 % of the time of what you stated it sounds like a shorted CRT, picture tube. I have seen hundreds.
First, call the manufacture and complain about your concern and ask them for a CONCESSION because your tube has gone out.
2.If that does not work ; call a factory authorized service dealer to confirm problem and get an estimate, then return ti #1.
Good Luck, Day, Big Irish. I hope I helped.

Yellow spots are appearing in the upper right quadrant of the screen. After the set has been on for a couple of hours a second spot appears in nearly the dead center of the screen. This issue coincides...

Try the new lamp as indicated by the blink codes. That may resolve the problem. If not, the problem is in the "light engine" portion of the set which should be covered under warranty.
Keep us posted.

Yellow Haze Center Screen

The blue filter is burnt out. A very common problem in Zenith DLPs. There are 3 color filters, 1 blue (a pinkish color), 1 green (a grayish brown) and 1 red (it is red) they give you your colors for you picture. This is a simple fix.

Bright spot on my 52hm95

can see it in certain lighting and even when the TV is off! It will appear lighter than the surrounding areas at times and can be annoying. I called Toshiba and had a service man come out and even though he acknowledged that this is common, Toshiba will not replace the screen.
