Question about Roper RAX7244KQ Top Load Washer

1 Answer

The washer fills with water, agitates but does not empty, spin, rinse or drain. The lid switch can be depressed with a small wooden dowel easily but no audible click is heard and it will stay in the down position until I put my finger underneath the console and push it back into position. I took the back water hose off the coupling (without removing the console) and water flowed easily from the basket into the floor (the hall, the kitchen, etc). So....does this sound like a switch problem? And how do I fix it?

Yes this does sound like a lid switch problem the part number is 3949247 and runs about 45 dollars.you may have to remove the control panel and loosen the body. but all you should have to do is remove the two screws from the cabinet and the switch can be pulled out between the tuba and cabinet.

Washer will not drain, spin or agitate

If your washer has suddenly stopped spinning properly, you will notice that your clothes will be sopping wet when the washer is done. Typically, there is a simple reason for this problem that you can fix without calling in a professional.Check the drain hose to see if anything is plugging it. Sometimes small pieces of material go out with the wash water and become lodged in the drain hose.Check the lid switch. You will notice on the lip of the lid there is a small stem that hangs down. This fits into a hole on the top of the washer housing and tells the washer the lid is closed and it is safe to spin the load. If the switch is faulty or has been blocked, the washer will not agitate or spin.http://www.mrsuds.biz/

Washer fills up agitates then when it should drain ,nothing.motor dosent come on to pump water out.

In most cases all brands will fill and agitate with the lid open, but will not drain or spin with the lid up.
It sounds to me like your lid switch is either bad or misaligned.
The first thing to check is the actuator plunger on the lid. Make sure it hasn't fallen or been broken off. Look for a piece hanging down from the lid that looks like a little finger that when the lid is closed, would hit and depress the lid switch ,which is under the top of the washer.
If it looks like the actuator is good shape then the lid switch is either bad or misaligned. Take a pencil or a bic pen and depress the lid switch. Making sure your washer is plugged in and in the spin mode. If it begins to rotate to spin and drain then see if a screw has fallen out that holds it in place or became loose not letting the actuator hit it correctly.
If the switch does not seem loose and it will not start the machine when depressed with a pencil it is probably time to change it out.

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

NOTE: You do not have to drain the washer to complete this repair. Once the lid switch is adjusted or replaced, the water will drain. This will save you time in having to bail water.

Take note of your symptoms:

1. Washer fills, may or may not agitate, will not advance to the rinse cycle, and will NOT drain - lid switch.

2. Washer fills, does NOT agitate or spin, but WILL drain - motor coupling.

If you still have questions, please let me know. If the suggestions I have listed do not match your washer symptoms, please post back and elaborate more on what the washer is/is not doing. That way I can provide you with better assistance. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Washer is filled with water,,it wont drain,,nor

Sounds like a bad lid switch. When you close the top lid, there is a safety switch that closes, it is actuated by a pin attached to the lid, there will be a small hole located on top of the machine, somewhere on the perimter of the top of the tub. Could also be a bad timer.

check your lid switch. if your lid swith is bad, it will fill and agitate, but will not pump or spin. therefore it will not go into rinse cycle without being able to pump out water. some lid swithes control the agitation also (usually frigidaire and older maytags), but i doubt yours does. you can check the lid switch for continuity while opening and closing the lid with a meter

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.
