I have checked my other gas appliance (hot water heater) and there is no problem with that. The gas on the top burners is fine as is the gas for the broiler. It is just the lower part for the oven where only a small amount of gas is coming out.

Hi,

The problem could be a couple of things...

There could be a separate regulator for the oven...if that is sticking the cooktop can work fine and the oven not...

The gas valve could be bad and not opening all the way....

or the ignitor could be going bad and therefore the gas valve doesn't open completely...

Figuring out the exact cause of the problem can be very hard...

I would find someone to work on it the would guarentee that you will not pay till it is fixed and then pay only for the needed parts....

otherwise you will get a parts changer that will soak you by changing everything...

It sounds like you have a gas pressure deficiency. You might want to check your gas at the main valve where gas enters your house and be sure it is wide open. Once you turn your knob on the range on what little pressure there is, is only enough to burn a low flame. Do you have any other gas appliances that are burning with low flame such as water heater, gas furnace etc. are they burning at full flame? If not that would confirm the low pressure problem.

Hi, I have a Maytag stove and unfortunately have lost my manual. In the last couple of days there has been an alarm going off with F1 appearing on the display panel. Once at 5:30 am and at 1:00 am. Could...

With Maytag Ovens the F1 error means Defective touch pad or clock (ERC). This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present. (If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself you need to arrange a repair technician to look at it for you)

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

Regards, Kat (please leave feedback, thanks)

I have a maytag super capacity plus stove and need to adjust the air mix for the burners. How to do it? Please help thanks

Open the top of the range. I believe there are a couple of spring clips in the front between the range top and the top of the door. Not sure on the Maytag. However, when you get the lid up, (it should be hinged at the back), set the burner pieces back on. (These burner pieces HAVE to be there or you'll just have a blowtorch pointing up!) You'll see that going to every burner there is a tube to carry the gas. on the side of every tube there will be an adjustable, sliding air vent. They are usually held in position by a set screw. Loosen the set screw. Light the burner and carefully slide the vent closed or open to adjust how much air is being brought into the mix. If the flame is way too high and or orange in color....you have too much air. You want as much flame as possible on high without the flame being orange or white-ish. Once you get the flame the way you like it, tighten the set screw back. Hope this helps.

Do you know what the average electric cooktop lifespan is? We have a Kenmore that is 9 years old and working fine. However, we are in the midst of a renovation and are wondering if it wouldn't be wise to...

The life span of the range depends on it's use or abuse.... Common issues are burners and the connections that the burner plugs into. These are not hard to change out.... There is nothing that can make the stove useless, if you keep after it. Newer units do a better job of retaining the heat within the unit, oven wise....Which is nice.

A gas range is certainly nicer, so they say. It is faster, but has one odd issue: if you boil water over, you can put out the flame and have raw gas running in. Most work this way, expensive units have thermal sensors that would turn off the gas flow in flame out condition....

My wife loves her gas range....

On my countrychef 100g gas range oven lights but when control knob is released it goes out

The heat sensor that detects the flame is not working properly. Consult a qualified Gas Engineer as this is a safety critical item.

Hi, your thermocouple is faulty, it is the little probe like thingy that sticks up into the pilot flame. It is there for safety purposes, detects flame and holds a valve open magnetically to allow the gas to pass through. Try giving it a clean with a scourer, sometimes works, or your pilot flame is not big enough, could be low on gas or unit needs a service Kristian KJ Tech

I have an Old Sears general Electic gas range and oven. It is used often and on for hours a day. Lately there has been less of a gas flow not allowing the oven to regulate proper temp. Is there a way to...

You should try cleaning the orifice first. Actually before you do that, if you can see the flames on the oven this simple check will determine a cleaning. Turn oven on and look at the flame, if you have propane it should be light blue at the base a little darker blue in the middle and have a little orange tip. If you have natural gas it should be almost all blue with maybe a slight tint of yellow in the center of the flame. If the flame looks like it is almost all orange. It needs to be cleaned. I can assist with the cleaning also, but confirm with this test first. Please rate answer accordingly!! Thank you

When one of the gas hobs is on ,it does not burn with a blue flame but a more yellow one .also black soot forms under the burner plate.it is on lpg

Have to adjust the piolot lights for the amount of gas coming out. U have too much gas coming out(yellow flame). On older gas ranges, there was a small screw between the piolot light & burners that had to be adjusted. (if this is a older model) have to turn the screw just a little at a time, till ur flame returns to blue on ur burners. Hope this helps.

Hi! I am converting my Maytag oven to propane from natural gas. I've flipped the cap at the main (n to lp) and snugged down all the orifices at the four burners, so far so good. But I am not sure if the...

Hi Kim,
First of all, read and follow all the safety instructions in your installation and operations booklets.
If Maytag recommend that only a certified gas fitter should do this conversion, then follow the advice.
If you are a certified gas fitter you would know the answer.
There are too many variables to take into account for this type of conversion like altitude, propane pressure regulation, age and wear of the stove, state of repair of all supply pipework, proximity to open flames in the area like water heater pilot lights. Leaking propane is heavier than air and will collect at the lowest part of the home like the basement where the open flames might be.
So my best advice is to ask a certified/ticketted gas fitter to do the job or check what you have done and ensure that everything complies with all local codes.
"If in doubt don't" is great kindergarten advice for everything which is potentially risky.
I hope this helps,
jenni.
