If this happens in the auto dry cycle, try using the timed section. If this works I need more information to help you further. If this doesn't work the timer motor needs to be replaced. This is not always practical as they are usually not sold seperately. If this is the case I would go to a used appliance store and see if they have a used timer you can take the motor off of. A whole new timer can run up to $100 or more. It might not be worth fixing.

WHY IS MY LG GAS DRYER NOT ADVANCING TO COOL DOWN CYCLE?

If its a newer dryer, they have moisture sensors that determine if it should shut down early or stay on longer if needed. Let it run the extra time and see what happens. If it keeps doing it, then the sensor is defective.

Maytag dryer stops after few minutes

ELECTRIC Dryer no heat or little heat, or shuts down to fast:

Check your venting and lint basket. Check blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)

Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective.

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,

Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle.

I wonder if maybe your wire is attached to the sensors? If it vibrated off the connection that could be the problem. Here is a video I made which shows how to connect the wire:

Dryer ran for hours and did not stop automatically, now runs but wont heat?

Good day,
If set to automatic and there is no heat it will run continually run without shutting off. You'll need to trouble shoot the heating problem.

A lot of the problems are due to limit fuses and limit thermostats located in the back. Beyond that you'll need to supply the model and whether its gas or electric.

It will not automatically turn off when running, the knob does not turn while running.

Miss Stephanie you must replace the timer.
If you have a timed dry setting. Run timed dry. If it does not shut off timer is bad.
If it does shut off you have a sensor problem.

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.

Kenmore HE4 Dryer

rmcfarland I am going to make an assumption. You are using the Automatic cycle. If so then this is wet load detection. Open the dryer door and at the bottom on the front you will see 2 metal bars. This is you moisture sensor. Clean that sensor with a mult purpose cleaner. If detergent and fabric softner sheets build up a coating on this sensor, the control will think you put in a dry load and shut down the dryer. Hope this helps.
