You have to enter a new Vista product id to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista. The Windows XP product id will not work for Windows Vista. If you bought the Vista from an authorized retailer of Microsoft products then the serial number would be on the back of the software pack.
If you want to you can buy an activation code from Microsoft. Having an activation code means you don't need a product id and that your right to use the software is recognized by Microsoft.
I am not sure if you also have a problem with Microsoft Office because your question says "problem with Microsoft Office Professional 2007...".
