Question about Ingersoll Rand 2340/2475 Electric Air Compressor Start Up Kit 32305880

1 Answer

I believe that the motor starter circuit on my Ingersoll Rand 2475 5 hp 80 gallon compressor is incorrect. It's a 30 amp single phase compressor

You should not be pulling over 30 amps. If you are you may have low voltage, incorrect wire size or to long of a run for wire size. I would use a hand held meter and check the amps at full load.

I should rephrase my question, the compressor does not turn on at all, if I push in the magnetic starter coil on the motor circuit it stays energized but the motor does not start.. The voltage across the motor is 0 VAC. I am suspecting the the wiring on the motor starter circuit is incorrect.

Is this a new unit or one that has ran. Do you have 230 volts to the top of the magnetic starter. Check each of the two legs of incoming power. You should also have 230 volts to the starter coil. Insufficient voltage to the coil say 120 volts could cause the condition you describe. If all voltages check out shut off all power and remove the magnetic starter front. There will be two small screws holding it in place. Inspect the contacts in the starter. Make sure they are there , in the correct place, and not burnt badly. If no problem is found install the magnetic starter front and power the unit up. With a volt meter check the left top incoming power lead at the top of the starter to make sure you have power. Push the starter in as you described and check the voltage at the bottom of the starter and then the overload where the motor lead connects. If no voltage is present at the bottom of the starter you have a starter contact problem. If voltage is present at the bottom of the starter push the overload reset and check for voltage at the bottom of the over load where the motor lead connects. If you have voltage at the bottom of the starter and none at the bottom of the overload after the reset you have a bad overload. FYI one leg of power to the starter coil comes from the overload.

WILL T21 SELECT OIL WORK IN A MODEL 2475

The solution was easier than I expected. Ingersoll Rand "Select" oil is a synthetic oil recommended by Ingersoll as better than mineral oil. T30 (mdl 2475) and T21 are different styles of compressors. So, yes "select" oil can be used in the Model 2475 compressor.

Hi robles212
To convert your T-30 to single phase you will have to do one of two things.
1. Change the motor to a single phase motor
2. Buy and install a "Phase Converter" to convert 3 phase to single phase

I have a ingersoll rand 30, srats for 20seconds then trips breaker,,,runs great when running

Sounds like the unit is pulling to many amps during start up. Possibilities are: breaker under sized, wire under sized, to long of a run of wire from breaker for wire size,Tank check valve bad. I would check the amps during start up and while running and compare to motor name plate information. Remember at start up the motor may pull 1.5 to 2 times the rated amps on the name plate. Also if this unit has a magnetic starter wire connections may be loose or overloads to small.

I have a ingersoll rand type-30,model#2475 7.5 hp,3 phase.need a wire diagram or how do you wire up the low oil and pressure switch? this is a used compressor with wiring still conected, has 3 leads to the...

from what you are describing it sounds like you are missing a couple wires somewhere or you do not know what you are looking for. The pressure switch, low oil switch motor starter coil, and overload relay should be wired in series to provide a control circuit for the motor starter. I would highly advise seeking the help of a certified electrician if you are not experienced in working with these machines. You can not only risk personal injury, but also damage a lot of expensive electrical item's real quick if it is not done correctly.
