Sometimes it can record on DVD-R Sony sometimes it doesn't.

I tried recording on Sony DVD-R before and it did record. Now trying to record and doesn't record. I also tried Maxell and same thing happens sometimes it reads sometimes it doesn't.When I record on computer and play on DVD home sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. What is going on? Why? why can't Sylvania offer a free Firmware update???? not fair. I think I rather buy a different brand DVD, what if the upgrade doesn't work?

So now I get an e-mail from Fix Ya asking me if I found a solution, if not they offer me a PREMIUM (Charge)Plan to help me solve the problem.

If I have solved my problem they want me to tell them how I fixed it for FREE.

Do you guys at Fix Ya use us as your employees to solve others problems and you collect the money? That is such a shame!

Trying to record on a DVD-R , after several minutes trying to load i get a msg saying it can neither read nor play this disc , check disc,,please help

I've had this problem with trying to record on CD-Rs also. DVD and CD recorders can be very fussy. You just have to get a piece of dust or a fingerprint on the CD or DVD that's being recorded onto and it gets kicked back as a check disc or blank disc..

Another problem is some recorders will only accept certain brands. I've had problems recording onto a SONY CD-R with a SONY recorder! So, in summing up, try a different brand or make sure the disc is clean. Sometimes just taking the disc out and putting it back in in a different position will make the recorder think it's an OK disc. Hope this helps.

Lg dvd recorder/vhs combo doesn't read dvds

Buy a DVD cleaning kit follow the instructions, sometimes brings it back to life. If no change! the assembly will need to be replaced,"not cost effective" cheaper to replace.

While recording from VHS to DVD, sometimes it stops by itself when I don't want it to, I want it to continue recording

It might be creating a new chapter. Have you tried waiting and seeing if its just trying to detect the chapters? You sometimes need to just leave it be, and it will keep going.

I'm trying to copy old family videos from VCR to DVD. I'm using the correct disc type (DVD-R) and there's no copy protection. I've tried both Sony and HP discs. Each time, it seems to be working but...

First, try to refinalize the disc if it failed the first time by going into the edit menu. Sometimes finalization just fails the first time.

If you are recording on 2-hr mode, and the length of your recording is an 1hr 50 min or more, there will not be enough space left on the disc to finalize. Going forward, your best solution would be to record in 3- or 4-hour mode for every 2 hrs worth of recording (6-hour mode for 3-5 hours of recording, etc.). Just to quickly decipher recording modes: 2-hr mode (sometimes called SP Mode, depending on DVD player) will record about 2 hours worth of material on a standard blank DVD (but some extra space would be required for finalization); 4-hour mode would record 4 hours worth of material on a standard DVD; 6-hour mode would record 6 hours, etc.

As far as salvaging the recordings you have already made - load the burned, yet unfinalized DVD's into your computer. Copy the files onto the desktop or some easy-to-find location on your computer. Then use a program, free or otherwise (I personally reccomend Nero or Roxio), to re-burn the discs. The newer version of Nero automatically finalizes the disc, but some software requires you to select an option that allows you to "close disc" or "finalize" the disc. (In computer lingo, "closing" means the same thing as "finalizing").

Good luck!

Eject dvd doesn'start recording

This sometimes happens when a disk is not formatted prior to recording .. the DVD is telling you it cant record on it at the time you want because it would have to format first and then start recording so missing the times you have set .
Best thing to do is use re- recordable discs only and format prior to use then the dvd should start straight away .
If not then the set has a serious read problem and requires looking at by a qualified engineer ... Regards Vortash

The result point blank displayed you are not allowed to record this program or it is blocked or distorted part of the way through the recording etc...

Programming errors

Several things to check 1) Your time - set it manually and remove the automatic time set 2) Try manually recording even a few min of anything (just put on channel to record, press DVD button and DVD Record button) - does it give you an error message on that disk? If so it might be because you are using 16x and machine sometimes gets messed up and won't record on those speed disks - same with +R sometimes does this - try recording on 8x -R ones. Hopefully this helps - if not try unplugging unit from wallsocket and leave off about 30min then try setting program again etc (plus current local time) and use a new disk and see if problem still occurs - sometimes just unplugging it "resets" everything and then starts working again.
