Question about Frigidaire Dishwashers

1 Answer

Frigidaire 2405 Dishwasher has a direct drain into the floor and is too far from the sink to be able to drain into the sink pipes. Can I add a loop of drain hose from the floor drain up to the counter height, about 30", then back to the floor to mimic the loop that would be created by running to the sink drain? I have been told that these new types of dishwashers require water remaining in the pipes to work properly. Thanks, John

I assume this will help reduce the pump whine sound and maintain the water source for the unit?

We will find out if this works later today when I add a loop of drain hose to the current length.

There will be no problem with you adding more drain hose to the unit.

there will always be some water in the line due to the fact that when there is no more water in the sump area there is nothing else to push throught the lines and some water will remain there.

My new dishwasher leaks water on the floor about an hour after it is completely finished with the cycle

Make sure the drain hose connected to your garbage disposal is connected well. Also, the hose should loop up near the sink (counter top) before it loops back down about 3 inches below the drain connection on the garbage disposal (or sink drain pipe if you don't have a disposal). This effectively makes a drain trap to avoid any smell from the dishwasher.

Also make sure the door is closed properly and there is no packaging material on the door.

Dishwasher fills up with dirty water after completing cycle.

does the drain line connect to the disposal?if so and dirty water is inside dishwasher the line must be looped under the sink so nothing can run back into the dishwasher, tie the drain line up higher than the disposal or higher than the point where it connects to the drain pipe so nothing can drain back into the washer.are you sure the water is draining out of the machine?fill it up and hit cancel drain and listen to see if you hear it draining in the sink,if the line isn't looped you could have a block in the drain line or in the pump

WHEN I RUN MY SINK IT DRAINS INTO MY DISHWASHER BOTTOM. I HAVE SNAKED THE HOLE AND IT STILL FILLS THE BOTTOM THEN I RUN IT EMPTY THEN FILL AND RUN AGAIN. HELP

The dishwasher drain line that connects to the garbage disposal or pipe under the sink should be looped above the height of disposal or pipe to prevent
sink water from backflowing into dishwasher.

Most dishwashers have some form of internal backflow preventer inside the water sump assy..

Frigidaire Dish washer MODEL

hi there aaliyazaidi2.is the water clear or dirty that you find in the dishwasher?there are two ways this could be happening.1,if the water is dirty[although it dose not have to be ,but its a sure clue]its you drain line of your dishwasher.what happens is because the drain line is lower than the sink drain, when you use your sink water runs by way of gravity in to the drain hose and then fills up your dishwasher, till you drain it or wash a load...to solve this problem you need too make a loop as we repairman call it.get some zip ties ,or what ever[string] and tie your drain hose off at the top off the sink under the sink cabinet[imagin your drain hose as a roller coaster, the hose coming from the dishwasher is the start of the coaster before it goes to the top of the big hill.what you want to do is ,at the top of the roller coaster hill, tie your drain hose to what ever you can under you sink causing a hill so when your hose goes back down ,it ends up into your disposer or what ever plumbing it ends up into.[hay i hope i helped you understand what i mean their];#2,the other way is your dishwasher water valve may not be sealing well. the water would only be clear if this was the issue and could be warm water because its only hot water to the dishwasher.what happens here is because the water valve is not sealing water slowly adds to your dishwasher may be drops at a time, and over the hours gone by it accumulates and the you notice water in the tub.to solve this you replace the water valve.its[most of the time blue, but could be tan or white]under the dishwasher.the water line from your house goes to it.i hope this helps you you can email if you need more help. God bless ,tom

Water gets into disher when not inuse

dishwasher drain enters sewer system tapped into waste pipe below kitchen sink
water flowing from kitchen sink passes the opening of the dishwasher pipe
If the dishwasher hose does not loop up higher than the kitchen sink before going down to the bottom of the dishwasher water may flow downhill through the dishwasher drain into the dishwasher
ensure the dishwasher drain hose is screwed to the underside of the kitchen counter, to provide a stop to water flow.
The installation instructions suggest this
but often the dishwasher is at the end of its 'stretch'
and the installer assumes looping is just to use up excess hose, and doesnt.
an extension drain hose is available at most appliance stores

you can not take the drain hose straight down thro the floor or the water will drain out as fast as it comes in. you can drain into a spigot on the sink trap or into a vertical pipe connected into your drains via a water barrier

Should the drain tube be looped or can it be pulled down for extra length

If the drain line goes into an air-gap on the top of your sink than it can be pulled down. If it goes directly into your garbage disposal then it really should be looped a bit higher than the bottom of your sink incase your sink gets stopped up the water will not flood back into the dishwasher. Some models come with a "check valve" on the end of the drain line (it's plastic and is about 2" long) these prevent water from draining back into machine and potentially flooding your nice floors.

Hotpoint dishwasher

Did you have a dishwasher before? If so, you must have had a sink tail piece with a dishwasher drain coming off the side. For the connection, you may have to get an adapter to fit the end of the dishwasher drain hose to the sink tail piece. Take all pieces to hardware store if necessary to get an adapter which fits. After you connect the drain hose, make sure that the drain hose has a "high loop", meaning that the hose curls up at least 6 inches above the connection point before it goes down again. This is important to keep sink waste from getting back into the diswasher hose if the sink drain backs up.
