Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

I have a Goodman Model number AR24-1 unit and the blower moter will not start with it turned on to fan or cool or heat. I have checked the thermostat and the unit runs outside. Just no blower. Can I jump the blower motor as I replaced the capacitor today. Hear are some numbers that may help. Part Number #15212-50 Volt 208/240 Amp 1.5 HP 1/5 No heat Kit It has a Goodman switch board # B1370735 that I can check with my meter if needed. I have checked the thermostat in the attic also. Seems like I get power in to the switch board but I dont get it out. Want to test the motor first. Can you help?

Blank screen sounds like a fried thermosat. Abrupt outages can affect certain types of thermostats. Make a jumper wire and jump across R and G. See if you get any action from anywhere. If a fan or compressor kicks in you know you have a burned out thermosat...

SOURCE: Goodman CK60-1C model central AC unit blwing hot air

Clicking sound is the contactor engaging to start the outside unit. Check for a burnt off wire at the contactor. For some reason you are not getting power to the outside unit. If you find a burnt off wire shut off all power to it then remake the connection at the point of the circuit break.

We gave a Goodmn Hertz 60 Phase I heat pump - installed this summer....worked great for cooling..now that temps are dropping we are needing heat. When we turn it on it comes on but never heats. Think it...

If you changed the unit but didn't change the thermostat it is possible that the thermostat that you have will not work with that unit. I see that the unit you installed is a heat pump, you may have a straight cool T-Stat. If you put the T-Stat in the "Auto" "Heat" mode the outdoor fan and the compressor should be workng as well as the blower fan. If it turns out that the outdoor fan and compressor are not running you will want to buy a Thernostat that is compatable with heatpumps should be 2 heat/ 1 cool

I would suspect that your fan motor burned out. What I would suggest is wait about 1/2 hour with thermostat turned down to lowest setting where it is not trying to turn furnace on. I would then turn thermostat back up to call for heat and see what happens. Most electric motors have a thermal overload on them and if its on motor will not run until it cools back down. Even if this works I would recommend that you have motor replaced and clean blower. Hope this helps. Thanks

My 5 ton Goodman Heat Pump won't go into heat or ac mode. Fan won't turn on. No noise from compressor. System is 1 1/2 yeras old.

Easy: Turn the "fan" switch to on at the thermostat and see if the blower starts. If no start, check breaker at breaker box. Check service disconnect at or near the air handler. With the breaker and/or service disconnect OFF check the 3 or 5 amp fuse inside the top cover in the air handler.
Not so easy: (You must know what you are doing for this part or let an HVAC Tech do it for you) Open thermostat and firmly jump the Y and R terminals to see if you get the compressor to start for no more than 30 seconds. (don't do it more than once.) Jump the G and R terminals to see if you get the blower to start. If so, u have a bad thermostat. If not, check the transformer inside the same cover in air handler for proper voltage. (24V. Make sure you also get 220 on the opposite side of the transformer)
If the blower comes on, but the heat pump doesnt start, open the side cover of the heat pump, with the thermostat on cool, and the temp. setting as low as possible for at least 10 minutes see if the contactor is pulled in. If so, check the capacitor and see if it's blown out. Be super careful these systems operate with 220v and the amperes are enough to kill you if you make a simple mistake.

Finding Pilot light on Goodman Model caf024a2a. Cannot seem to find the pilot light...The blower works but no heat.

i think the ca # is for the cooling coil unit - the heater should start with gmXXXXX - if your unit is fairly new - the pilot light electronically when thermostat calls for heat the unit will not light if the burner door is open

Blower moter will not start and run when running the air conditioner

Check the wires coming from the blower motor. Find the one going to "Cool" on the circuit board. Make sure it has a good connection. You can also try and removing a wire that is now on "Park" and putting it on "Cool" and see if that helps. If it does, you have a bad motor. If nothing changes, I suspect a bad circuit board or fan relay on the A/C side of the unit. It may take a technician to diagnose, sorry.

Inside blower not starting every time

That's a weird problem. I wonder if the outside compressor is drawing down the voltage in the breaker box enuff to keep the blower from starting up. If you're set to cool but the thermostat is NOT calling for the AC, can you manually turn the blower on fathfully? If so, I would check all wiring connections in the breaker box to make sure they are tight and free from tarnish or corrosion. You may even need to contact your power company and have a higher amperage line installed outside. Do your house lights blink noticably when the compressor kicks on?

While you're resolving this, you could start the blower manually and just leave it on. The compressor cycling on/off shouldn't stop the blower once it's running and it won't draw much current... couple bucks a month maybe.

Hope that helps...
