Turns out it may be a problem with the Digital board, the A/V Board or the DMD board. Cost for repair (depending on which board it is) will run $400 - $1,000 or more.
or
replace the color wheel

definetily after this ur tv works properly.post me if further problem .

Since this is a DLP set there are multiple components that could be causing the problem, the hard part is determining which one.

My guess would be the lamp is beginning to die, which is normal, it is a light bulb after all. There is a guide here on changing the bulb: http://fixyourdlp.com/blog/2008/03/05/samsung-hln617w-lamp-replacement/
If you Google "HLN617W bulb" you will find multiple sources for purchasing a replacement lamp.

If it's not the lamp it could be something like the colour wheel motor, or the imaging board. But I would start with the bulb as other parts could be quite expensive.

Hello mkarol001 !!

It might be something as simple as a loose scart connector on the TV, u have to wobble it around a bit or re-position the scart lead to sort it.

Although the digital board could be a suspect, i would lean more to the dmd board. the board will hve to be repaired by a proper tv technician or it will lead to more critical state.

feel free 4 further assistance n keep sending more question n comments or doubts that arise in ur mind regarding this to me.rate the solution as fixya if it helps u understand n solve ur problem

It sounds like your lamp is getting ready to go out, but you are also correct in the fact that a bad ballast could also make the lamp flicker. I hope this helps.

Samsung HLP5085W DLP - lamp replaced about 7 months ago. I powered up TV and got strange colors with flickering picture. Turned unit off and triangle symbol appears with lamp showing - needs replacement....

Strange colors and flickering picture symptom shows problem with color wheel and/or dmd board.
Lamp is only light source in dlp tv and it has nothing with colors or picture flicker.
TV goes to protection mode because of some internal problem as mentioned above.
If you wish to repair tv by yourself then you should have service manual copy in hand and that can be downloaded from HERE for small fee.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.
