Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Open Question

Putting DC17 back together

I can't get the piece with the rubber stopper in it on the bottom right side of the vacuum cleaner to go back on. We took it out because it wasn't aligned properly which kept the vacuum cleaner from changing positions when we stepped on the front. Now we are finding it very difficult to put the piece back on because the plastic ring at the top part of the piece is not staying in place.

SOURCE: Dyson won't go back into upright position to engage suction

The dyson.com website had a solution for this particular problem. Just press in a button in the area around the right wheel while lifting the rear of the vacuum up. This allows the base to roll forward enough to go back into the upright position. I did this and it worked. All fixed.

SOURCE: I took the trap(or whatever it's called)off the

now you have a dyson leaf blower! not funny huh? Ok, just slow down and recheck your connections. Sounds like the motor is running backwards or you are hook up to the discharge. ck for baffles that block off the vacuum to the roller part when attachment is installed. If hose was collapsing then the restriction was or is in the hose. Don't poke through hose with anyrhing but a rounded end broom stick or you chance tearing the hose. Take machine outside to test run, but I think you already thought of that .:) Good luck. Will get back to you in a bit.

SOURCE: I take apart and clean my DC17 every 2 weeks. When

The roller is not spinning do to motor or belt not working. If it is the motor then the machine will have to go back to dyson if it is the belt then that is an easy replacement.

Where can I buy a stopper for my Aladdin flask no. SB950H stopper has a piece broken off the side and will not seal regards Maureen Perry (Australia)

Hello, well over here in the US we have several places. You can rubber or cork stoppers stoppers at Lowes or at an Ace Hardware store. Not sure what you will be putting in the flask but if you are looking to purchase on line, then check out Fisher Scientific. Enter the search term flask stopper and a whole gaggle of selections come up for you to click on drill down and read the type you want. They have glass, rubber, silicone and all kinds of stoppers.

My bissell proheat turbo 2x hand tools will dispense solution but not water.

  • Fixed it! The check valve on the bottom of the bladder wasn't going deep enough into the recepticle on the base of the unit; the valve wasn't opening, and the pump was sucking from a dead end. (It WOULD pull soap from the small tank, but not the main bladder reservoir.) I cut a 3/4" piece of a disposable ball-point pen cap, to ride over the rod in the center of the recepticle. Long enough to push the valve open, but short enough that the tank assembly sat down on the base. If the rod is too long, it will push the whole tank up, and break the vacuum seal at the forward edge. Evidently this thing was designed to a tight tolerance, and just a little aging/distortion of the plastic reservoir base was just enough to keep the valve from being pushed open!

The switch on and off wont work so i took it off and it works but know iam having problems putting it back together the spring are the problem

Those springs are tricky to get back in. you can use the flat end of a screwdriver to hold them down and compress them. I would recomend taking it to a proffesional to get it put back together right before you break the plastic and cost yourself some big money.

I'm not sure about all the switches used in the vacuum, but I recently took some pictures of the power button assembly. The buttons in the picture below are (from left-to-right): Circuit Breaker, Brush Switch, Power Switch

The next picture shows how the plastic buttons that operate the brush and power switches should go together:

And finally, this is how the power button assembly reattaches:

I have a Bissell 1690 carpet cleaner and it is leaking water very quickly out the back. How can I fix this problem?

I had the same problem with my bissell proheat carpet cleaner. My cleaner would leak water out the back when i turned it on. I opened up the cleaner and found there was a broken tee connector. The tee connector was a small black plastic three way connector shaped like a letter "T" with three plastic hoses plugged in to each end. One hose had broken off from the tee, the tee connector itself had snapped. Bissell has a couple hoses that run up through the upright porsion of the cleaner, i believe if that hose gets pulled too hard by over extending the cleaner upright portion it can snap the tee connector.
I purchased a vacuum line tee connector at the local auto parts store for a buck and replaced it. The vacuum line connectors are for rubber lines on a vehicle related to the engine, but they work fine for the Bissell. The size i purchased was 3/16"x3/16"x3/16". The cleaner works great now!!!

Here is how i took it apart:

I removed the water reservour, the soap dispenser, and the cap for the air flow indicator (red spinny thingy).
I removed the two screws in the very back, the two in the middle on each side of the water resevour and the two in the front. I carefully lifted the top of the cleaner off.
Inside you have to watch for a black plunger piece that might fall out, it belongs to your (heavy traffic/light traffic/water only) turn knob. If the plunger falls out reinsert it back into the underside of the cleaner lid right next to the knob, you will see how it fits in there...hopefully. Inside the bottom portion of the cleaner you will see a few hoses. Check them all and make sure none of them are disconnected or broken off from the tee connector. I would almost bet that this is what your problem is if the machine is leaking. replace the valve, reconnect hoses and carefully reassemble the cleaner.
    Hope this helps...

How to reassemble vacuum elbow tube with plastic insert?

If the plastic insert has come off then that is not normal. It should be all one piece to the hose. You might have a hose problem that needs replacing.

I used my new proheat 2x steam cleaner the first

You may have mislaid a piece when you took your Bissell apart to clean it after using it the first time.

I experimented with mine to try and reproduce your issue. On the bottom of the water tank, there are two pieces that can be removed from it. One of them looks like a black plug at one end, with a red rubber flange piece on the other end. If you push your finger inside the red rubber piece, you can feel a spring move up and down. This is the first piece you place on the bottom of the water tank. I suspect you have this piece, because if you didn't, water would gush out of the water tank as soon as you turned it over after filling it.

The other piece, which is the one I think you may have have mislaid, is a larger black, plastic ring with screw threads. This piece goes over the top of the first plug piece, screws onto the water tank, and holds the plug in place. The words "RECLOSE TIGHTLY" appear on mine. If this piece is missing, the water tank does not sit flat on the base of the Bissell, but kind of flops around, out-of-place, and the unit will not dispense water properly, though it may leak it.

If ithat piece is gone, it should be possible to reorder it. Start here:
    http://www.bissell.com/Customer_Service.aspx

If that's not the problem, if you have all the water tank pieces, I wonder if perhaps you unscrewed one black screw to remove the clear front plastic piece from the base of the unit-- the piece through which water is drawn up off the carpet-- to clean it, and didn't get it back into place properly. Make sure the two hooks at the bottom of this piece are inserted, one per side, into the clear plastic side pieces at the bottom. If the hooks are not secured properly, before trying to reinsert them, unscrew the black plastic screw so you don't break the tab. It's easy to miss getting these one of those hooks back in right, but it's important to do that before trying to screw the clear front plastic piece into place.
