One of these is true:
It's not plugged in
It's power switch is off
The hard drive failed
The power supply / AC Adapter failed.

Try taking the hard drive out and connecting it to the computer internally.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

My computer wont read my iomega external hard drive but read before now its just local disk c ...try to open but will freeze ...have a lot of stuff on hard drive so i cant just format it again...

This is quite a tough one, First does the external hard drive appear when on your computer at all? I would assume disk "c:" that you mention is your main drive or your internal harddrive. If you don't see your external on the computer when you have it plugged in and turned on. Then there is a promblem. 1) Make sure driver is installed, usually when you turn on the external harddrive or plug it in to the computer, the windows sound (found device) usually pops up. 2) Check all connections if all is properly made, and if you have another computer, test it on that computer if you get another different result. If same result is made, and all connection are properly secured. Then you external harddrive enclosure, or the harddrive disk inside it is bad. 3) Listen to your harddrive to see if you hear the drive inside it spins, or if it is making any noise. If spin you could be ok, if it is humming or clicking loudly like it's stuck, then you are kind of done for and could pretty much say goodby to all those files and stuff (with exception) 4) You can take the hard disk inside the external enclosure and hook it up to a computer (if you need help how to, let me know) and see if the computer is able to read it. If not, then definitly your drive is damaged. You can still recover the files, but can't gaurentee a full recovery. In that case, you can take it to bestbuy, office depot, and tell them about the promblem and have them do a data recovery. It is costly, I mean very costly. Anywhere from $250-$750+
Now, if your computer could detect it and give it a drive letter for exmaple D:, but unable to access the files, you can probraly do a error-checking when right click for propertie of the drive.

My External Hard Drive isn't working anymore, to say the just of it. It's on, lights on(not flashing, it flashes when it's being written to or accessed), usually has a regular clicking noise from it...

When a hard drive makes a clicking noise, this indicates the hard drive has failed and if the BIOS and the Computer Management does not detect it, then this confirm a hard disk failure.
To get the computer operating again, replace the hard disk, then install Windows on the hard disk using the Windows installation CD and the Windows product installation code that is on the label on the computer then install the device drivers and your programs.

Hello

Here is something you can try.

Have a good listen if you plug in your drive to hear if the drive spins up, if not, the drive is not getting ant power. This can be a result of a blown circuit board.

If the drive makes a clicking noise when you plug it in, the drive is broken. Have a listen and let me know.

Kind regards
Andrea

Clicking noise

The clicking comes fro damage done to the read/write head hitting either the swing stop or the heads are out of alignment and clicking the edge pf the platters. The drive is mechanically damaged and cannot be serviced with extensive cost. If you need the data, you will have to get the drive to a data retrieval company.

External Hard Drive doesn't work

There is a (laptop-size) hard-drive inside the case, and that hard-drive is failing. As it spins, it generates those noises, like a dying dinosaur. If it still is under warranty, exercise the warranty, and replace it. If the warranty has expired, tough luck.

Light blue is on, Seems it doesn't start at all

Check it on a second computer, if the problem follows the drive, then the drive is defective. You could take the case apart, and make sure the cabling is properly seated. Have seen an external drive where the interface cable (to the drive itself) was not properly seated, and resulted in a non-working unit.
