Question about Jandy Lite 2 Natural Gas Pilot Light Heater

1 Answer

I have a Jandy Lite 2 - 400,000 BTU Pool / Spa Heater. Model # LJ400N w/ Touch Pad controls After a proloned period of non use, my spa was not heating. I removed the front panel of the heater unit. I manually turned off the heater then turned it back on, only 2 or 3 rows of the burner fired up after waiting about 20 seconds and then it shut right down after about 10 or 15 seconds. The unit won't ignite again until I manually set it to the "off" setting then turn the heater back on to "spa" setting again experiencing the same result with the heat exchanger only patially igniting and shutting down immediately. When it does light, the flame is a cool orange instead of a hot blue. There are no service codes displayed either.

This sounds very much like spider webs in the gas orfaces. If you shut the power off and remove the wires to the gas valve then shut the gas down and remove the fed pipe from the gas valve you should be able to pull the burner tray out of the heater. Now if you remove the burners you should be able to remove the brass orfaces connected to the main gas feed pipe. If you use an air hose or a can of compressed air you can blow this out now. Now take the orfaces you removed and clean them with a tooth pick or a small piece of wire. The webs will look like small cotton balls or lint. They don't stop the gas they just slow it or disperse it and keep it from firing clean and evenly.
At this point you can reassemble the tray and install. This should fix your problem.

I just spent ten hours trying to run down an electric problem on a spa,to no avail. It was good to get home and find I had helped with your problem. Thanks for letting me know. I feel better now.

Funny how the world works. It's way cool your tub is hot. NRN

Ihave a 175000 btu Lite 2 Jandy Pool Heater model # LD175P. It takes approx 3 hrs to go from 48 degrees to 100 . Why so long? The spa is 7ft in diameter and normal spa depth.Should I have a more btu heater?...

That seems to be a pretty good heating rate. You're talking about 52 degrees in 3 hours. If you want quicker heating, you will need a higher output heater.
