Question about Sony Video Cameras

Open Question

I have a model number CCD-TR21 Sony camcorder Video8. I found it up in my attick along with many tapes of my kids whom are now grown. Anxious to view and make presents for christmas...I plug it into the vcr with battery pack as power source and it rewinded for a few mins. then screen started to flutter making a clicking sound. The eject opened on its own...which it doesn't normally do. I tried to push it back in and after several attemps it finally closed. Next..I pressed play and it sounded like the tape was getting caught (it did). I tried to trouble shoot, by purchasing the power cord, new lithium batteries and a new battery pack. Plugged them all in and nothing works. Now the camera is not recieving ANY energy at all, from any source. What are these syptoms related to and how do I fix?

SOURCE: Rewinding the tape stops after a few seconds and eject comes on. Also battery dies in 5 minutes.

I had this exact same problem, I was stressed as i have sold the camera and was just testing to ensure it still worked. I took this advice and used the charger plugged in direct to AC (bypassed the battery) and the camera now works. I will try recharging and discharging the battery a few times slowly. Thankyou so much for providing this advice.

It sounds like the tape door is out of alignment, causing stress on the tape and the inside mechanical system.  Requires a visit to the service shop.

The unit likely has a problem in the transport mechanism which moves the tape. Maybe time to retire this unit?

I have a GE CG818A Camcorder, when I play it it only plays black and white. Was wondering if there is a used Sony or any camcorder that would play my Video8 P6-120MP tape, in color.

I have the exact same camera and same exact same problem. Any analog Video8 or Hi-8 camcorder or VCR will play these tapes.

By using the same cassettes as Hi8, many (NOT ALL) Digital8 (produced by Sony exclusively) camcorders are able to play analog Video8/Hi8 recordings, preserving compatibility with already recorded analog tapes.

you can connect Digital8 camcorders to your computer to download your movies for editing or Internet use.

As of 2008, Digital8 camcorders have been removed from the equipment offered by Sony.

I have a Sony Video8 Handycam CCD TRV211.

Hi,
If you are asking about CCD-TRV211 camcorder?
CCD-TRV211 is analog Video-8 camcorder so its movie data is not digital and can not be connected directly with computer via USB port.
Best and easiest was is to connect camera with DVD Recorder and burn DVD, this will convert analog movie file into digital data and you can copy it to hard disk of computer.
