Hi,

This could be internal fault. Any number on the screen 0-99 indicates number of message not yet played back. The answering machine seems to be stuck.

Have you tried to reset the memory?

Pull out the battery and then keep the answering machine aside for few minutes, say 15 minutes. Then put the battery in. This would reset the memory. If that would not help, we could try to repair the instrument.

Service manual would be :-

http://download.qrz.ru/pub/hamradio/schemes/phone/sony/tam-100.pdf

The other option is usually replacement. It would not be worth to spend hours to get it fixed using multimeter and soldering iron. If you wish, i would be glad to proceed and help you in getting it repaired or the other option if the reset didn't work to buy an used machine :-

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

"A" displayed and will not record caller's message

Your answering machine is set to "announce." In this mode it can announce that you're not available to take the call but will not record a message. The machine automatically switches to this mode when its memory is full.
If the memory is not full, you can switch from the "announce" mode to the "answer" mode by pressing the [ANSWER ON/OFF] button until it lights up in red.
If you need a manual, you may view one here.

Trouble shooting

You're in the Announce mode, where the machine plays an announcement but does not record a message. It switches to this mode automatically when memory is full. If the memory is not full, you can switch between the Announce and Answer modes by pressing the [ANSWER ON/OFF] button. You're in the Answer mode when the button lights up red.

Saving messages

I went to the following Sony website and asked a technician in their live chat room (which I highly recommend if you have any Sony related questions), and he said my messages would be stored on my machine indefinitely even if I unplug it and place the machine in storage.
