To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

My wireless signal is indicated, it DOES NOT light up, no icon recognition at the bottom right for a signal, BUT the wireless router works for the desktops , 2 with NO problem

Try resetting it to factory default setttings. Use a paperclip to hold the reset button down in the back for 30 seconds. It will come up as "NETGEAR" with no security when it resets. Try to connect to it and see if everything works that way first, then re-set everything up as far as security passwords for the network and all. If it worked as NETGEAR with no security but not after you set up security, something isn't compatible.

I connected my new dlink 600 router to my cable modem. Not only does the wireless network not work but the ethernet connection does not work. On top of that I can no longer access the web directly...

When you connect a router to a modem, you should power everything off and restart in this order:
1. Power up the modem, allowing a minute or so for it to run thru its initial diagnostics. 2. Power up the router. 3. Turn on the computer.
It's best if for the first time you do this that you have a wired connection to your router. With the wired connection, you'll be able to setup the secured wireless passcode and the like.
Most likely, what happened was that your router wasn't interfacing properly with your modem and was spitting out 169.x.x.x IP addresses. This169 address signals that the Network Card on the computer isn't finding the DHCP server of the router which is what assigns IP addresses. By booting everything up in the order above, your problem should be solved.

The router most likely is not synced properly with the modem. Your computer might still have a strong connection to the router, but isn't getting an IP address. Power everything down, including the modem and restart in this order:
1. Modem - allow a minute for it to run thru its diagnostics 2. Router 3. Computer
Once you've done this, if you're ISP isn't having outages, you should have the internet working again on your computer. If this doesn't work, call your provider.

Your Wireless Router may have its name not broadcasting or hidden, check in the settings if it's hidden then manually connect your P.C.'s Laptops ,you won't find it using 'search for network'. Just right click on wireless icon near clock, select 'Open network and sharing center' and right click it. Now select 'Set up a new connection or network', Select 'Manually connect to a wireless network' and fill in the gaps. should work fingers crossed.

Have a new imac with leopard and it has a built in airport, how do i get the dlink on my pc to recognise it

To join an AirPort network:
1.
Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Network.
2.
Click AirPort in the network connection services list and choose a wireless network from the Network Name pop-up menu. Enter the password for the network if necessary.
If the network you expected is not in the list, it may be a “closed” network and not be available in the list. Try clicking Other, and then enter the network name and password if necessary.
If AirPort isn’t in the list, click Add (+) at the bottom of the list, choose AirPort from the Interface pop-up menu, give the AirPort service a name, and then click Create.

Mac won't recognise network

Based upon the way you worded the message, you were trying to get the Mac working wirelessly? The description of how you were trying to set up your network (SysPref\Net\BuiltInEthernet) is for WIRED connections, not wireless. If you are running OSX and you have a built-in wireless adapter, use System Preferences\Network\Airport choice to set up for wireless connections. If you are trying to use the wire either because you don't have a wireless card or it is not working, check to make sure that the cable is good...maybe hijack the cable that you know works for your PC and test it. Please let me know if I am on the right track to solve the problem.
