It sounds like you are trying to connect wirelessly- I would connect an ethernet cable and log into the modem. The codes you are looking for would be there. Bar that, I would contact your ISP, since they can walk you through getting you connected to your modem.

I got a new laptop and am trying to connect to the internet, but it is asking me for the Network Security Key. I don't know where to find it. Can you help??

Network security key is a encryption key.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

Hi im able to connect to te internet wireless with my computer but not on any other devise I need to get my security code, how can I do that?

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect to the Belkin Router Wirelessly and it is asking you for a Security Code, all you need to do is to access the router settings page and look for the Network Key or Passphrase.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)

Thanks for using Fixya.

How to set up password for internet

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya.
If you want to set a passowrd (Passphrase) we can access the Wireless Settings Page of the router to obtain the information needed.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net. The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security you can set a security either WEP, WPA, or WPA2 and under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key (Wep/Wpa Key) or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Network Key is case sensitive.

Don't forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya

My router is hooked up and working with dsl. but my wireless adapter is not. wrt54g

To check the wireless settings, use a computer that can get online or is hardwired connected to the router.

Follow the steps below:

1. In the address bar of your Internet browser, type 192.168.1.1

2. It will prompt you for the username and password. By default, leave the username blank and the password is admin.

3. Go to the Wireless tab.

4. Click the Wireless Security tab.

a. If the mode is WEP, take note of the Passphrase and Key (you need to copy only the default transmit key). If WEP encryption is 64 bits, you have to copy the 10 digits security key.

NOTE: If you are using a Linksys wireless adapter on the additional computer, you may use the passphrase for the security key.

b. If the mode is WPA, copy the Personal key or the Enterprise Key.

5. On the wireless adapter's settings, you should be able to detect your SSID and then just type the passphrase or security key.

After installing the router it was working fine. I went in to set up wireless security and now the internet light stays red.

Probably means that the security is turned on, if the wireless doesn't work even after you have entered the right password then press and hold the reset button on the back of the router to restore it to defaults - factory defaults just like it was first powered on.

Hi Iam on the internet with the main computer and netgeardg834g wireless router iam trying to connect 2 lapptops 1 is vista 1 is xp how do i do this. Mark.

Right click on network icon in the systray, click on “connect to a network” – you’ll see it’s listed as a “security enabled network”
"Type the network security key or passphrase for..."
The person who setup the network can give you the key or passphrase"
"Security key or passphrase"
Note: Checking the box next to "Display characters" can make life easier
Click on “Connect”
Leave the defaults of “Save this network” and “Start this connection automatically”
Click on “Close”

This works for both xp and vista

Having trouble adding computer to wireless network

this is just easy.. what you should type is the encryption key only... if your security is wep, only the encryption key or key 1 is needed. if your security is wpa, only the passphrase is needed.. it is very CASE SENSITIVE.. but if you see that the name has changed to LINKYS_SES, then you have a problem there because your wireless settings has changed due to the button on your router which is the secure easy set-up on the upper left corner which is the cisco button.
