Question about Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket

I am working the same problem with my MX500, the rear freewheel isn't catching and driving the rear wheel. I have it all apart and am trying to take apart the freewheel to get to the bearings. I am trying to figure out how not to break, bend or destroy the freewheel. I presume replacing the bearings, regreasing and or replacing the pawl springs with fix the problem. Does anyone have a video on how to fix this? I had the guy at the bike shop tell me about 2 pins holding it together but I just don't logically see the way to disassemble. Thanks.

The problem is witht he flywheel on the rear wheel assembly. I had mine fixed by a professional last night (at a bike store). Razor uses a very cheap spring that is designed to fail and then to top that off did not use enough bearings as well (12 bearings short out of the factory). My son had also sprayed WD-40 all around the back axle (trying to make it faster). This is bad because, the bearings are packed in grease and WD-40 is a de-greaser. Never get WD-40 anywhere near your back axle!!! Anyway, the flywheel was way easier to remove than I thought. It is threaded onto the rim's axle shaft and just screws off. Once you get the flywheel, off you have to take it apart, fabricate a new spring (my son's new spring came from an old 10 speed's tensioning spring), reset the 3 pawls, repack the bearings, put the flywheel back together, and screw it back onto the wheel. I will post a YouTube video on this later. Hopefully this is enough info to get you started.

There seems to be a loud clicking noise coming from the bike when my child drives it. Any ideas what is causing this?


Does the clicking rate vary with wheel speed? Check the chain tensioner and the freewheel. If your freewheel only has 4 notches in it for the removal tool, it's an older one. They can get noisy before they go bad. If it has 8 notches it's a newer one, they beefed it up. Take the chain off the motor sprocket and turn the shaft. If it makes noise and wont turn smoothly, your motors bad. Check the chain for stiff links, and look for any broken plastic parts or loose bolts or screws. Check the nut on the shock and tighten that if it's loose.

Rear sprocket turns but the wheel does not engage the bike is a 26" cruiser windwood model. looking for a exploded view of the rear axle


The freewheel has little arms that are spring-loaded and should engage teeth that would drive the wheel. This is exactly like a ratchet wrench. The problem is that those little arms (there are probably two of them) are either broken or they are too dirty to move. You can spray WD-40 into the groove that is about 1.5 inches in diameter. This may work to free those little arms. Or you should just buy a new freewheel. It is unlikely that you will be successful in disassembling the freewheel without special tools. What??? RLtoFixYa doesn't know what they are talking about. Your problem is a faulty/broke "one way roller clutch" which is threaded onto the rear wheel. I've already replaced 2 on my son's MX500.....

It wont move it works but the weals dont move


Check that the chain is still on both the drivewheel(the part on the motor) and the freewheel (the part on the wheel). If that is connected well, check if the chain moves when you rev it. If the chain moves but the wheel still doesn't move, the freewheel, or gear connected to the wheel, is probably broken and you need to get a new rear wheel. If it doesn't move, the motor is most likely shot, and you're going to need to order a new motor, unless you are confident in taking apart the motor and replacing whatever needs replacing within it.

I was pedaling my bike home last night when suddenly my pedaling didnt rotate the rear wheel anymore. the chains are still on the gears and will still change speeds, but it freewheels. i got it to catch...


You need to replace your freewheel (about $20). I'd advise taking rear wheel to a repair shop, as you'll need a freewheel removal tool (they retail at about $25) and most shops will replace it for free (with their tool) if you buy the part there.

check the freewheel lever on th rear of the chair near the right rear wheel if you can push the scooter easily then you are in freewheel locate the lever and move it to the drive mode and try to drive the scooter again if it still won't move then you have other problems that can only be checked by a service tech Hope this helps

Front cog does not rotate when pedaled


You will have to remove the rear wheel and take it in to a bicycle shop and have the rear cog replaced. The freewheel part inside it has likely broken and will only rotate in both directions. It should rotate to back pedal and then catch as you pedal forward.
