1-Is it a cable modem? The new ones Cox has out are DOCSIS-3 and if your router is several years old you may want to replace it with a router that is designed for DOCSIS-3. I kept my DICSIS-2 router (3 yrs old). 2-You should do a few speed tests to confirm performance then talk to your internet provider about your connection. I had to have Cox come out to check things and they replaced a component on their side. 3-Do have a friend or a neighbor going through the same thing? I did, we compared notes and got to the bottom of it.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
(Hopefully you are running Windows 7 for this advice. Let me know otherwise.)
1. You should be able to click Start, type "view network connections", hit enter.
2. Right-click your wireless connection and hit 'Properties'.
3. Click the sharing tab and then 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's
4. Click OK and try again.
You may need to also plug in your computers DNS settings into your XBOX (360?).
2. Right-click and hit 'Status', then 'Details'.
3. Notice the IPv4 DNS Server.
4. Go to your system / Network / Wired on the XBOX and try typing in your Laptops DNS numbers (ex. 192.168.1.254).
Unless they changed it on the new Blade system so that you HAVE to have and IP, subnet, and gateway, in which case, take note of those three numbers on your machine and plug those into the XBOX settings too (except if your computer shows 192.168.1.150, set your XBOX to something like 192.168.1.155, everything else the same).
Hi, IF you are able to connect your wireless device? Did you checked that are you able to ping the wireless router? Are you able to ping any of public dns fr.ex. 22.214.171.124? And above both is working try to check the DNS which you entered?? if above are not possible then again check the setting with your wireless router?
Your ex-next door neighbour needs to contact his Internet Service Provider to get a new ADSL connection linked to his new phone line. The original ADSL connection is tied to his old phone line/number and it will not work in his new location. Each ADSL connection is setup at the local telephone exchange and tied to that phone line/number..
If his Internet Service Provide does not operate nor can provide an ADSL service in his new area then he needs to find a new Internet Service Provider.
