Question about Amana ALG331RAW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Heats up and then no heat again

Dryer only heats up for the first cycle then will not heat up again. Ignition cycles on and off but but i dont get a flame. (Im thinking it's the gas valve solenoids)

If the timer is set on the 'more dry, less dry' cycle, timer will not progress after first flame cycle, I have to manually shut off. On the time cycle, timer will progress and shuts off automatically but of course still no heat after first cycle. (is this related to the first problem?)

GE Profile Harmony Gas Dryer not heating/drying clothes.

let me ask you this does the ignitor glow orange but no flame when you have no heat?usually on a gas dryer if at first you have heat and then after 10 to 30 minutes no heat it's usually the gas coils located on top of the gas valve, common problem, after the coils cool down they will work again, that dryer is kind of complicated to work on seeing how it does have two motors in it but you should be able to get at the gas coils,if you send the model number i can look it up for you.but it sounds like you have bad gas coils, the only way to tell is run the dryer, when the heat stops working look at the ignitor,if it glows orange and the flame doesn't ignite you have bad gas coils.

Drier heats up in beginning of cycle but after that never heats up again during that same cycle.

Hello,

While you didn't say im suspecting it a gas heated dryer??

If so here is whats wrong with it;
The reason your gas heated dryer starts off heating ok,but a part way through the cycle it is no longer heating as it did when it started,is beacuse the coils that open the gas valve are getting hot and breaking down when they are warm. At start up of cycle the coils are cool, but when the dryer heats up as it runs the coils that are weak can not handle the heat and do not open the gas valve. Replacing the gas valve coils with fresh, strong ones will open the gas valve the entire duration of the drying cycle. All appliance manufactures use the same exact gas valve coils and label them with their unique part number. Having been in the service business i know they are all the same and the part number for the least expensive gas valve coils is 279834
They can be purchased at your local appliance parts store on online at
searspartsdirect.com
repairclinic.com
apwagner.com
apdepot.com
midwestapplianceparts.com

To replace the coils, remove bracket over them(dont worry about where it says dont grip thats for when dryer is plugged in) unplug them and install new ones, that bracket has notches in it and the coils have tabs that inter lock so they position them self exactly where they fit.

This is what the coils looks like

Heats but wont stay heated

If the flame come on to start with, but then goes out and won't come back on I would suspect you have a bad coil on the gas valve.
If you see the flame cycle on and off, but the flame does come back on again this is normal. The flame needs to cycle on and off and not be on steady or the dryer would get to hot.
If the flame is cycling ok and the cloths just don't get dry then you need to check your dryer and vent for lint build up.

Hello there im having problems with my kenmore gas dryer it only works for 5-10min then over heats and shuts off the flow of gas as i can see the burner trying to re-ignite the heater inside when it cools...

Your gas valve coils are defective.
Once they get hot,the resistance changes and does not allow them to remain on or reset.
Change out the gas valve coils.

I have a gas Frigidaire dryer that heats once or twice

your cycling/hi-limit switch needs to be replaced,it is located on the outside of the burner tube to avoid an overheat condition and cycle the flame according to your heat setting on the control panel

No heat after first cycle

This condition is normally caused by a faulty cycling thermostat. Movement of the timer in the auto-dry mode is controlled by the cycling thermostat. Movement of the the timer in the time-dry mode is not controlled by the cycling thermostat, but by the timer motor.
Below is a link directing you to an enlarged image of the thermostat. You will also find other pages within the website with exploded view diagrams and disassembly procedures, prices and shipping information.
