    thanks!

I'm putting it through the feeder

  • patrickjp Jun 18, 2008

nope, it must be something in the feeder?

  • patrickjp Jun 19, 2008

Ya know.. when you open the top (when the feeder is) there's no glass visible. Just 2 plastic strips the feed the paper and then the rollers.

Is there another way to access this?

    that did it!!! thank you

OK, that narrows things down a bit. Do the lines also appear when placing the original on the scan glass?

Although I am not familiar with that particular model, they all use the same theory.

Are you placing the document directly on the glass, or using an automatic document feeder (if this even has such an option)?

Yes. There will be an access cover / lid where the document goes in.

Open the cover, and you will see a thin glass, called the 'scan glass'.

Look in the middle of the glass. You will most likely find a glob of white-out, or ink on it.

Use rubbing alcohol to clean off the culprit.

Black lines on most any scanner will be caused by dirt in the scanning system, or by a damaged/defective scanner sensor. You can clean the window.

I have a line that runs down the center of all the documents I scan. What can I do?

On your scanner, there is something (dust?) that is blocking that part of the scanner from scanning that column on the scanned document. Clean the scanning-head.

Scanned document has a black verticle narrow line 3 1/4 " from the left edgle all the way down the page

Hi walt_latimer,

If when you copy or fax something and it has a black line running down the page, it is often caused by a dust, dirt spot or mark on the glass where it is being scanned. The easiest way to resolve this is by cleaning the feeder glass that reads it with a clean cloth.

Hope it helps.

Black line in the middle of the output - scaned document

Hello,

A black line down a scanned page indicates a dirty scan glass. Lift the top of you scanner like you would putting a page or book down to scan. On the end of the scanner that has the document feeder you should see a thin piece of glass the is separate from the larger glass pane. This is the document feeder glass. Now check it over for a very small mark of ink or dirt. You can use regular glass cleaner to wipe this glass just spray it on a piece of cloth not the scanner then wipe. You may have to wipe and then try scanning several times if the ink or marker is died on. while you are cleaning you should also clean the main glass pane, it will make the scans clearer and crisper.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Line on far right of scanned documents

Hi,

Most likely the scanner has dirt on the glass that is over the imaging array or the glass may be scrached. If the glass is scratch, the imaging CCD array need to be replaced. If you do not scan the rear of your documents, you can swap the upper with the lower in the case that one is scratched.

The imaging array are the green long bars, one at the bottom of the paper path halfway inside the scanner and the other is above it. Look closely for a small spot of black toner or dirt stuck
on the glass. Take a soft cloth, wet it with water or alcohol if needed and clean the glass.
Pass you finger over the glass, try to feel if all of the toner or rubber residue has been removed.
You might try looking at the specific area were your documents image is getting the line. It will
help you pinpoint where you should clean. CAREFULL not to push on the glass as this
might break it. Hope this helps.
