The system disk are usually on a partition on the hard drive.
if you didnt make a copy of the HARD drive or made a cd from the images on the hard drive, gateway wont help.

you could buy a cd from them

some gateway have a special boot directory to boot from

try looking for that.

Most likely to be either the waste basket not being emptied for a user, or it could be the system restore where old restore points exist. In windows explorer, right click the disk and select 'disk cleanup' Give that a go.

System Restore setup procedure for Vista

Restore points are created automatically every day, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually.

Check to make sure you have system restore turned on:
  1. Open System by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_47.png, clicking Control Panel, clickingSystem and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

  2. In the left pane, click System Protection. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_41.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.

    Hope this helps

I want to wipe a compaq presario sr1110nx desktop pc,the girl i am helping has no recovery discs, she just wants it to be as it was when she first bought it.

OK. I found your product in HP site and it is installed Windows XP while it came. So to restore it to factory default, you need to press F10 while rebooting. Here is the steps.

Let me know if any questions.

Restoration problem

How often are restore points created?
Restore points are created automatically every day, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually.

How much hard disk space does System Restore require?
To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk that has System Protection turned on. System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore will delete older restore points to make room for new ones.

How long are restore points saved?
Restore points are saved until the hard disk space System Restore reserves is filled up. As new restore points are created, old ones are deleted. If you turn off System Protection (the feature that creates restore points) on a disk, all restore points are deleted from that disk. When you turn System Protection back on, new restore points are created.

The restore point is a built in utility by microsoft, you can't have the option to configure the settings!!!

Need a restore disk for acer laptopex4420

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

Windows 7 and Vista has a feature called System Restore that automatically backs up registry and system files whenever you install new software or drivers. This feature is useful when you install evil software that makes your computer run really slow. But don’t worry, System Restore won’t remove Windows Vista.

Using System Restore in Windows

There are two places that you can use the system restore feature from. From within Windows, you can just type restore into the Start menu search box, and you’ll immediately see System Restore at the top of the start menu:
now just follow it all

How do i do recovery fow my laptop dell inspiron 8100 restore windows xp

You need to look in Programs for a programmer called system restore. If not in your program menu then you should have a disk for it. Follow the options in the program where it gives you different restore points.

Operating system

If you have a laptop, it has a function called Hibernate. In this, the entire thing that is running, as it is in the RAM, is stored in a place on your hard disk and the PC is shut down. It resumes everything when it is switched on later.
The place reserved on the hard disk is a small thing called 'hibernation.sys' and it is as big as your RAM. If you don't need it, you can delete it through the command line or Disk Cleanup.
Now, the problem you are in is that the file has been deleted, mostly through cleanup and the system cannot hibernate anymore. I recommend that you use System Restore and roll back the computer to when there wasn't any problem. This won't harm your personal files. Now, remember to uncheck 'Hibernation Files' or similar in Disk Cleanup to avoid deleting it.
Or else, there is another way to restore the file without using the time consuming System Restore. See this.
