Question about Samsung HLR5067WX 50" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Have Samsung DLP hl S5086w that I replaced the ballast after the light wouldn't come on and smelling a strong burning odor. After 45 days of it working fine, the light has gone out again with the same strong burning odor. I suspect another bad ballast. Could there be something that's causing these ballasts to burn out? The first ballast worked for several years.

Well, if there is an over-voltage, the set is usually turned off to prevent damage to the components. But now that you mention it, the first thing I would check is what's the input voltage, coming into the ballast. I think I have a service manual for this model, so let me know if you know how to use a multimeter and have the experience of working on electronics before.

Why would our Samsung MN HL 850 86W make a crackling noise after it warms up? It sounds like the cracking of a fire. What could it be?

Your lamp ballast is going bad. Might last a few more months, but eventually it will have to be replaced. Bulb will also likely have to be replaced at same time, but try the ballast first.

Samsung HL-S5086W 50-Inch DLP HDTV keeps turning off for no reason

After turning off do the LEDs on the front panel blink on and off?
If so, you may have an issue with the lamp. Probably needs replaced or repaired.
