Hi Jer,

If the igniters are not firing, it's a power problem.

If the igniters are firing and the engines are not igniting, there are a few things to check a well as minor alterations in procedure to try.

Remember: Safety first. Allow cool of time between tests.

  • Double check power from what ever your source is
  • Be sure the igniter is fully inserted into the nozzle.
  • Tape the igniter to the engine to ensure the flash is directed toward the propellant.
  • Switch engines - use a different one
  • Make sure the igniters work on their own without the engin - saves time between tests
  • Try a different style igniter. Century's version is very reliable and is available at Toy and hobby shops.

P0320 Hyundai Description

When is the code detected?When the ignition signal in the primary circuit is not sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) during engine cranking or running.

P1320 NISSAN Description The ignition signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM) is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns on and off the ignition coil primary circuit. This on-off operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit
Possible causes - Faulty power transistor unit built into ignition coil
- Ignition primary circuit is open or shorted (circuit to ignition coils)
- Ignition primary circuit poor electrical connection (circuit to ignition coils)
- Faulty ignition system condenser
- Crankshaft position sensor circuit

Even tough the coils may be working OK, the resistance for one or more of the coils is greater or smaller that what the Engine Control Module (ECM) is expecting. Measuring the resistance with the coil out of the vehicle may not show any failures, usually the coil fails under heavy conditions (hard acceleration) or certain temperatures.

The P1320 code means that there is problem with the "Ignition Coil" or the wire to the ignition coil. For some models without individual ignition coils the Ignition Coil is inside the distributor and the distributor need to be replaced to fix the problem.

Ignition firing order and cable position at the coils


The 3.5L (VIN H) engine's unique ignition system has the ignition coils directly over each plug. No spark plug wires are used.

The firing order for the 3.1L VIN M, 3.4L VIN E, 3.4L VIN X and 3.5L VIN H engines is 1-2-3-4-5-6. The right bank cylinders are on the cowl side (rear) of the engine compartment and are numbered 1,3,5, left bank cylinders on the front side of the vehicle, are numbered 2,4,6.
