Question about Hi-Pro Hipro 200W ATX Power Supply p/n HP-A2027F3 200-Watt Power Supply

Open Question

Is there anywhere when I can find a schematic for a HIPRO 300 watt switch mode power supply? Part Number D3057F3R used in a HP pavilion a767c computer \r\n This power supply is completely dead. Is there a fuse on the 120VAC side? didn't see a glass fuse on the board. Arcoss the filter caps there is 200 volts there. Just no Secondary output and no 5 volt standby output. Nothing in side the power supply looks burned and no electrolytic caps buldging. The little green LED on the rear of the supply is Lit but not full brilliance. Also tried jumpering the Green Wire that goes to ground when the Power On switch is pushed on the front panel of the computer, no power supply start with Green wire grounded. I really need a schematic for this supply to start trouble shooting. I have found schematics for Switch Mode PS but not for the exact HIPRO supply that I have. I feel the problem is fixable if I had a correct schematic to follow. I know all SM supplies are about the same with a few differences in the Power FET circuit. Thanks, Kevin

The HP Pavilion w1907, 19 inch Widescreen monitor, RK283AA,
uses 49 Watts in operating mode, 2 watts in sleep mode.

The Compaq Presario SR5410F Desktop PC, has a 250 Watt power supply. (Maximum wattage rating )

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01374067&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3686678

Theoretically.

Back in the day when this computer was made, Power Supply manufacturers were 'fudging' a bit on the truth.

(HP has their Power Supply's made by another company.
Bestec, HiPro, and Delta, are three of them )

Actual wattage is more like 60 to 70 percent, of what is stated.
250 divided by 10 = 25.
25 times 6 = 150 (60 percent)
25 times 7 = 175 (70 percent)

Your Power Supply's actual maximum rated wattage, may be as low as 150 Watts!

Going with the Power Supply produces a maximum of 250 Watts;

If you are playing an intense game, or have several programs running at once, you MAY reach using 250 Watts.

Just surfing the internet? About 100 Watts.

Desktop PC plus Monitor:
1) Surfing Internet: 149 Watts, or let's just say - 150 Watts

2) Computer is maxed out running hard?
249 Watts, or let's just say 300 Watts.

Voltage times Amperage = Wattage
Wattage divided by Voltage = Amperage

Number 1 above? About the power it takes to use a 100 Watt light bulb, and a 50 Watt light bulb. (Incandescent)

Number 2? About the power it takes to run three 100 Watt light bulbs.
(Incandescent)

You dont have to replace it with the exact one...just shop around and find a 300 watt ATX power supply. You can find a few good deals around the internet. (tigerdirect.com...newegg.com....etc)

I am looking for a schematic for a Dell Optiplex GX280 power supply. The supply is model HP-U2106F3.

I just replaced my GX280 power supply (mini-tower) with the following 400W for $30.

The only place I can think you will find an actual schematic for the PSU is from the manufacturer.

The LED on my HIPRO D3057F3R power supply is illuminated but the fan does not run. Does this mean that the power supply is bad?

Yes, it does.
More than likely Electrolytic Capacitors, have gone bad in the power supply.

Electrolytic Capacitors are used in the Input, and Output stage of the HiPro power supply, as Filters.

In the Input stage they filter the incoming AC voltage.
In the Output stage they filter the rectified AC.

(AC is rectified into DC. The capacitors are filtering DC at this point.
AC = Alternating Current
DC = Direct Current
A flashlight battery is an example of stored DC)

The HiPro power supply you have produces three main voltages. Three voltage Rails.
A.3.3 Volts
B.5 Volts
C.12 Volts

When Electrolytic Capacitors go bad, or are failing, there is a weak voltage rail.

HiPro power supply's are cheaply mad.
1.The wiring is too small. (The gauge of the wire is below standards)

2.The Electrolytic Capacitors are of low quality.

3.The rectifier bridge has cheap diodes, and too small of a heatsink.

I could go on, and on.

When you have a power supply with a weak voltage rail, there is not enough power for the Processor.

1.ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt.
2.EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts.
3.A typical Processor can use 55 to 125 Watts!
[Depends on what processor it is.

This is why lights - light, and sometimes fan's will spin, but the computer won't run.
Not enough power for the Processor.

Solution?
Replace the power supply.

Viewing this link,

http://www.pcmarketusa.com/product_view.aspx?product_ID=18498

,you can see the HiPro D3057FR3 power supply has just the usual ATX shape, and size.
The ATX 'Form Factor' power supply, is used in approximately 90 percent of computer towers.

[Form Factor usually denotes towards a motherboard. An ATX form factor motherboard is 9.6 inches by 12 inches. Form Factor means the size, and shape.
The Form Factor designation, has been used towards certain hardware parts in a computer, as well as the computer case, but this is erroneously used. It does make it easier to identify with, though. That's why I used it here]

Point I'm getting to?
1.See if you have another Known, GOOD, ATX power supply to use for a test. Test my statements above before you go out, and buy another power supply.

Do you have another computer that has a good power supply, but may have other issues, that you can borrow the power supply out of, to use for a test?

Another thing. This manufacturer overstates the actual rated Wattage. The actual wattage is more like 70 percent of what is stated.
They state 300 Watts - Maximum, but in reality it is more like 210 Watts.

It is for this reason, and the reason that components used in the above power supply are cheap, that I would recommend buying a different power supply, than buying another HiPro.

(Therefore,.NO, I do not recommend the one in the link above, as a direct replacement)

What power supply that fits your needs would I recommend, that is a decent quality power supply, and won't break the bank?

This one,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4675269&CatId=106

OCZ StealthXStream 400 Watt.
Why?
Because it has 80 percent of the true rated wattage.
320 Watts actual.
Because it is reliable.
Because it has all the power cables you need.
Because it is $28 USD after the rebate.

I'm sticking my neck out recommending a particular power supply here, as this goes against our TOS, but if you have no background in this area, how are you going to know what to look for?

I am not recommending the website. But I have used them repeatedly, and always to my satifaction.

Any questions?

Hipro HP-d3057f3r computer power supply broken?

I have the same problem. I found this:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph06788&product=12455#bph06788_section_2

  • Replace the side panel, plug in the power cord, and examine the light on the back of the power supply:
  • If the LED is on solid and is not flashing, the power supply is probably good and the problem is most likely caused by a defective component (processor, memory, PCI card) or a defective motherboard. Have the computer serviced, or remove the components and replace them, one at a time, to find and replace the defective component.

Won't turn on - PS light on but no PS fan

Surely sounds like the power supply is in need or replacement, or fuse replacement at absolute least.  the fuse that you will be in search of will be located inside of the power supply unit.  Use caution when working inside the power supply.  If you don't see a fuse in the power supply, OR you come to find that the fuse is not damagaed then you will likely need to replace the power supply.
