You need a new hard drive and the software re-installed as your old hard drive has given up the ghost.

I cannot get sound from the internal speakers

hey, try this if u have windows pc

Control Panel - Device Manager - SOUNDS - look for HD Audio - Mine says RealTek High
Definition Audio (that is an example and yours may have an entirely different name/maker).

Write down description make and model - double click on it - drivers tab - write down version.
Now Click UPdate Drivers which may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers.
Then RIGHT CLICK on it and UNINSTALL - REBOOT - this will rebuild the driver stack.

1st go to system maker's site and look for latest driver Download - SAVE - go to right click on
and RUN AS ADMIN (This is your fallback.) REBOOT after each driver installation.

NOTE : Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the
reboot to see if the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot
until it is. It can take several tries depending on how many rollbacks it does.

My laptop is running without a sound. speakrs are not working. When ever i start my lappy 1 error msg shown on my screen.... "IDT AUDIO DRIVER" are stop working. So, plz tell me what i have to...

Hi Friend,

Try these steps-

- Go to Control Panel - Device Manager - Sound - double click - Driver Tab - click Updates Drivers (this may not do
anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click - UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the
driver stack.

Then go to System Maker's Site(eg HP/Dell/Sony etc) and download the latest Audio/Sound driver for your system.
(Write down the version)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put it - Right Click - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT

Double check in Device Manager - Sound - double click Driver Tab - to be sure the version you ran is installed as often these will rollback until finally the current one is installed - check then if not right one then run driver
- reboot and check.

Thank you.

After some time my sound card stop working but as i reinstall he driver the sounds come back is there any problem with my sound card or with the driver

I just posted this same problem myself last night. I found another tip and tried it and it solve my problem.
1. Go to MY Computer properties by rt clicking on the icon
2. Go to Hardware tab and look for your Sound(click the + sign)
3. Right click only the sound device that is a problem and click "remove or unistall". Leave all the codecs or other things you see in there.
4. Close everything and Reboot
5. Windows XP will recognize "found new hardware" and installs the drivers automatically if it is still in the system, if not you have to reinstall from your recovery disks.
6. Reboot again (that's how I got my sound back)

Re: scratchy speaker sound quality

Have you tried with headphones?  Scratchy WITH heaphones. Reinstall driver. If it's NOT scratchy with headphones.  Either your speakers are blown, (which usually doesn't happen), you need to reinstall your sound card drivers, or bad settings.  Double click sound horn. Turn some volumes haflway, or mute sound channels you aren't using. Options Properties will let you show ALL sound properties. Ctrl+S makes the sound properties half size.
ReInstall Drivers: Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager, Expand Sound Controllers, Right Click on your sound card, Click Uninstall.  Reboot and reintall.
Might ask to reinstall automatically.  Thats fine.  Install then reboot.  I prefer to cancel the install until I have rebooted.  But both ways tend to work.
Hope you don't have to change your speakers.  Need to pull your mobo to get to em. Instructions here pg. 5-55
